Question about Canon EOS Rebel G 35mm SLR Camera

2 Answers

My shutter on my Canon Rebel Xti will only fire if it is set on the manual setting. When it's on the automatic setting, all that happens is that I get the shutter speed and the aperture opening on the screen at the back of the camera.

Try resetting to factory settings, that is probably a fault.

There is no setting that disables the automatic shutter, apart setting it to manual mode.

If it does not work at all, try a reset to factory default settings from camera settings menu, if that does not work the camera may be faulty. In that case it must be taken to a repair shop.

Will it fire if you take the lens off AF and set it on M? If so then your release switch may be bad - I see a lot of that. Also there is a screw that comes loose that may be shorting out the auto-focus sensor flex connector. The bottom right screw on the back circuit board always comes loose/out on XT and XTi cameras.

Remove the lens and fire off a couple of shots while watching the inside of the camera. Does the mirror flip out of the way? Does the shutter open and close?

I just bought the 430ex II flash and it won't fire on my Rebel XTI.... i read the manual but I'm not sure whats wrong, have any advice?

I assume that flash is turned on. 430ex flash will fire automatically only in AUTO mode. On manual modes you mus manually force the flash to fire.
If flash doesn't fire at all, consider to claim the vendor or let the vendor to check the flash mounted on your camera.

Canon 300 EOS images

This could happen if you're using flash and your shutter speed is set too high. If you're not set to Program or Auto mode, try changing to Program mode and see if that solves your problem.
Otherwise, it sounds like a sensor issue. Call Canon support - I've found them helpful. Check the website for phone number.

400D manual mode

You are exposure compensation in manual mode. If you want the shots lighter, either open up the aperture or slow the shutter. The exposure compensation feature is to override the automatic settings determined by the camera in the auto-exposure modes.

I have a Rebel XTi and take professional images. It could be that your lens isn't as sharp as it should be or your sharpness settings in the camera are set low.

Flash not firing properly

Could be the metering mode you are in. Could be the subject is too far away. Could be ISO is set wrong. Could be the lens aperture can't open up enough. Could be the exposure compensation isn't set correctly. Could be FE Lock is still on and the composition has changed. Does the <flash> icon continue to blink? Then you are too far away.

Canon Rebel xti...broken?

you will have to 'Play in Depth' with the help on the manual here to establish what it is you are doing that the camera not like. For example if in load light conditions and you have set the camera to manual, then it could block if the manual setting does not suit the light condition prevailing. So manual out and a good read through
