You can also force the system into safe mode. You click on startup and type in msconfig. Click the general tab and select diags and the system will reboot to safe mode. Change it back to normal to get your system out of safe mode.

If you use XP as in title, all you need to do is pressing F8 key at the right time.

Press F8 key on startup, when the computer just finished post test (RAM, drives check at start) and start loading windows.

If you do not find the right moment , try pressing F8 many times until you open the boot options display with safe mode choice.

My daughter was trying to change her background pic and the color and look of the taskbar. Now the screen loads black and you can see nothing that you click on.

its a long shot but try Fn/F4
Fn is a hotkey function key that in combination with some other keys provides more options on the keyboard Fn/F4 puts the screen in sleep mode.

How to get into safe mode

Power on the machine and keep tapping the F8 key on the keyboard, after a few seconds, you'll see the "Advanced Boot Options" screen, black screen with white texts, the first from the list should be "Safe Mode...." if not, use the up and down arrow on the keyboard and highlight the Safe Mode and press Enter. You'll be taken to the Safe Mode and also you see another warning message stating if you are sure to boot into safe mode or not, click yes and proceed forward. There you are in the safe mode.

If you need further help, let me know.

Good luck.

How to go in safe mode?

Hello,

to go into safe mode, turn on your computer and constantly press F8 immediately. You will press the F8 button at the first black screen, that is, when your computer displays its log.

While pressing the F8, a windows option will be the next screen to appear, amongst the windows option, you will see safe mode there, use your keyboard arrow key to scroll to safe mode and press enter.

By now, your computer should be loading on safe mode.

Good luck.

OK I JUST GOT MY COMPUTER FROM STORAGE AND I HOOKED IT UP AND IT SAYS ON SAFE MODE PRESS ANY KEY TO CONTINUE BUT MY KEYBOARD OR MOUSE DONT WORK

Turn on your computer and than when it goes into safe mode hold the power button. Then turn it on. It should prompt you to start in windows mode, start normal, or repair i believe, Your keyboard should work so go to normal and press enter. If your keyboard doesnt work it has a timer and will auto select the highlighted one which should be start normally. After starts normally it should register your mouse and keyboard and you should be fine

Hope this helps ^^. Please dont forget to rate, Thanks

Acer laptop keyboard & touchpad not working

If you can log in by pressing the f8 key in safe mode, then try the system restore. If it doesn't work, it could be very well be a hardware failure.

Some of my kerys arent workng....underscore...equals and the letter eye....can you help?

Usually it's a hardware problem. Easiest thing to do is order a replacement keyboard from eBay and just swap the old one for a new one.

In the meantime any usb keyboard will work.

Best of luck!

If you can't get into safe mode by pressing F9 during start-up you may have to reload windows. If you can get into safe mode, back-up data and reset the PC to the last configuration on which it worked. When you see the "Please select the operating system to start" message, press the F8 key. When the Windows Advanced Options menu appears, use the ARROW keys to select Last Known Good Configuration (your most recent settings that worked), and then press ENTER.
