Question about Acer Aspire One AOA150-1570 Notebook PC

Cannot find wireless icon or connect to the internet

On my acer notebook the wireless icon seems to have just dissapered off my taskbar and I cannot find it anywhere or connect back to the internet. There is nothing wrong with the connection (all the lights on my router are green) and when I searched on other laptops the connection comes up. How can I get this back on as I cannot get onto the internet at all. Dont know if this helps at all but it did come up with a message at one point saying nautilus file isnt working and I also cannot get onto the network manager. Hope I've explained this right.....Please Help! Thanks

Hiya again, No I dont have a start menu, its basically all there on the screen when I start up if that makes sense so it must be a version of Linux.

First off, make sure that you haven't accidentally toggled off your wireless card. On the Aspire One there should be a small toggle WiFi button along the bottom right edge of the base. make sure that the WiFi button is lit, if not, try pressing the button to toggle it on again.

Hello again, could you please tell me if the WiFi light is on?

If its not, the problem may be with the button itself, if it is on however, its probably an operating system problem.

If the light is on, and its still not working could you please tell me what operating system you're running and I'll try to help out :)

Hello again, assuming your model is the AOA150-1570 (which is the area this is posted in), you should have Windows XP installed.

You can double check this by clicking on the Start menu, right-clicking on "My Computer" and clicking "Properties".

If you don't have a Start menu, you're probably running a version of Linux.

Okay, here is one possible solution:

You'll need to open up a terminal, to do this, go to:
My Documents > File > Terminal
    At the terminal type this:
    "rm -rf ~/.gconf/system/networking" (without quotes)
Hit enter, then restart your laptop.

What this will do is delete your wireless settings then recreate them.
Please let me know if you receive any errors or if this fixes the problem~

No problem, I usually reserve "throw it out the window" as a last resort :)

All netbooks have both the wired and wireless networking capability built-in. The Acer Aspire One AOA 150 Model No. ZG5 (8.9" screen) netbook has a RJ-45 jack on its left side for wired 10/100 Ethernet. On right-most part of its front is a slide switch to toggle enabling/disabling of the built-in 802.11b/g WLAN for wireless connectivity to WiFi. Click on the following link for a detailed description... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aspire_one
Pushing the wireless slide switch to the right momentarily will cause either Wireless LAN Enabled or Wireless LAN Disabled in large green letters to appear momentarily at the bottom middle of the screen. Once enabled, look at the Taskbar at the bottom right of the desktop and click on the little terminal icon with ))) and a little red x beside it. This opens the Wireless Network Connection window and you would then do the following...
1. in Network Task sidebar click on the Refresh network list to update the wireless networks
2. in Choose a wireless network on the right side, click on an item in the list to select & hi-light it
3. click on the Connect button to get a pop-up window for Network key & Confirm network key
4. if unsecured network, the pop-up reminds you of the risks but you can Connect Anyway
5. in the pop-ups, you can click to either Connect (for secured), Connect Anyway, or Cancel
6. when connecting, another pop-up window appears with Waiting for the network
7. once connected, the selected network will move to the top of the network list
8. in the desktop's Taskbar, the little terminal icon with ))) will no longer have the little red x
9. right click on the icon to get a pop-up for the status and wireless connection management

My Acer Aspire One was working perfectly untill today, now it wont connect to the internet either by erthenet cable or wireless, each time i click on the browser icon it thinks about if for a few seconds...

Here are some suggestions that may help you resolve your Acer Aspire One problem.
Try to eliminate possible causes by
1. Shut down / power off all the PCs - the Aspire One and those belonging to your son and daughter.
2. Shut down / power off all game or multi-media consoles that can connect to internet via router.
3. Power off any another network connected devices (hard drives, printers, scanners, picture frames)
4. Power off your wireless router and cable/dsl modem for about five minutes.
5. Power on your cable/dsl modem.
6. After a couple of minutes, power on your wireless router.
7. Power on your Aspire One and a few minutes after desktop is loaded, shut off its wireless.
8. On the desktop's Taskbar, make sure the Wireless Network Connection icon has a red x beside it.
9. Look for the double-screen icon representing Local Area Connection in the desktop's Taskbar.
10. If not there, click start, control panel, network connections and right-click Local Area Connection.
11. Click enable on the pop-up to enable the Local Area Connection and its icon appears with red x.
12. Connect ethernet cable from one of the router's RJ-45 LAN ports to Aspire One's ethernet port.
13. The red x should disappear from the double screen icon in the Taskbar.
14. Hovering your mouse cursor over the icon should get a pop-up with the connection's status.
15. If OK, click on your IE browser icon on the desktop.
16. If nothing happens, click start button at bottom left and click on IE in start menu or program list.
17. If nothing happens, press Ctrl and Alt and Del key together to bring up Windows Task Manager
18. In WTM, click Applications tab to see if IE Task is running.
19. If not, click Processes tab to see if iexplore.exe process is running.
20. If not, check if you can start anything else such as Notepad.
21. If nothing starts, you should consider doing a recovery using Acer eRecovery Management.
22. If IE does start, click on its Tools tab then click on Diagnose Connection Problems...
23. Follow on-screen instructions to diagnose your connection problem.
24. If successful, close down IE, remove ethernet cable and restart the Acer Aspire One.
25. Disconnect the ethernet cable and turn on the Acer One's wireless with its wireless switch.
26. Big green letters "Wireless LAN Enabled" should appear momentarily at bottom of desktop
27. Followed by a pop-up balloon over the Taskbar's wireless icon announcing connection made.
28. Open IE browser again, click on its Tools tab then click on Diagnose Connection Problems.
29. Follow on-screen instructions to diagnose your connection problem.
30. If OK, the problem may be an interaction with one of the other networked devices/systems.
31. Redo this procedure but power on one of the other devices/systems before the Aspire One.
32. Redo one at a time for each of the other device/systems.
33. If the Aspire One is found to be OK with all of the devices/systems connected one at a time
34. Then the problem may be when ALL of the devices/systems are on and connected.
For example, depending how it is setup, the router's DHCP may have run out of IP addresses.
Another example is IP address conflict due to systems not flushing their IP cache on restarting.
These two examples assume the problem exists regardless either on wired or wireless connection.
If just one of the devices/systems is causing the problem, it may have been infected with a virus.

How to setup acer travelmate 2410 wireless lan step by step as i dont know which wireless driver has to be install & how to setup.

Hi there,
You can install and configure the wireless lan very easily, First of all you require to download the driver for your Acer Travelmate 2410 by below mentioned link
Wireless LAN Driver (Approx 12 MB)

when you download the driver simply right click and extract to the folder, now run the setup and it will install the wlan Drivers automatically, when the drivers are installed reboot the system once so they will run properly, now you will notice one new wireless icon in taskbar along with clock , simply click on the icon and it will show you all the available wireless networks in your area, click to choose your desired network (might require passkey if its secure) and you will be able to access internet/network with wireless connectivity
feel free to contact us if you require more assistance, Regards, Bilal

Want to go wireless for acer notebook but do not know what router to use, acer has no disk slot to upload software

If your computer has wireless adpater then you do do not need any drivers to install the wireless. The wireless router should automatically detect the network. First check if your computer is detecting any networks. To do so, click on the wireless icon on your computer taskbar nearby to system time (bottom right hand corner), if you are able to see your wireless network, if yes, select it and click connect, once connected, open IE and try to access web page. If in case ou are not able to view any web page and connection remains active, I suggest you try to connect in "Safemode with Networking", to do so, restart the computer and as soon as it restarts keep on tapping F8 key, now select "Safemode with Networking" from the Advance boot menu. Try to connect to internet. If you are able to connect to Internet then the issue is with the firewall on you computer, contact the firewall manufacture for settings. If you are still unable to connect to Internet, then the Internet setting are not correct, you may need to contact the ISP.

go to network and sharing center. it should be where you click on the internet icon down at the bottom in taskbar right side. when it opens try setting up a new network. if that don't do it check to make sure your wi fi is on or needs resetting. also on that page in the network center is a pretty good troubleshooter. good luck

you must have the wireless adapter and the lan adapter set to turn off when you are on battery power to reserve the battery, click on the battery icon in the taskbar and check the power settings or use empower Acer Epower management and turn them both on.
