I have a 48" 1080i Samsung projection tv. I have tried auto and manually using the convergence but the middle of the screen is still red and it has a double picture. Can anyone suggest anything. If anyone has had this problem and had it fixed what was the estimated cost. Thanks

Tv have problems known as a convergencce problems.Check ur remote go into tv menu.Go to convergence adjustment, try auto convergence. The auto convergence din't fix ur problems.Than the tv convergence board the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resistors are dead.Try the website like Tvrepairworld.com to buy a whole rebuild convergence board for the replacement. The Akai/Samsung DLP tvs used the same convergence board.
The R,G,B colors alignment wouldn't line. That mean ur tv have a problems known as a convergence problems,it dead. The tv convergence board require the 2 STK convergence ICS and some or all it resisrors to be replaced,to solved the convergence problems. The shop will cost $300-350 for parts and labors.
Just to clarify, it sounds like what you are saying is that the image
appears to duplicate in either red or blue along the edges of the image
(especially white lettering and probably increasing along the boarder
of the TV). This is resolved by converging your TV. Convergence will
drift normally on large screen projection TV's over time or through
moving them. The Hitachi 57f500a has a feature called "Magic Focus" (pg
36 in your manual) which will auto converge the image. If the auto
converge feature doesn't work, on page 37 in your manual, it explains
how to converge manually. If you do not have the manual, I have the
image of the pages below. If for some reason this doesn't work, please
provide additional info and detailed prior to rating the help.

IF YOU HAVE DOUBLE IMAGES YOU CAN GO IN THE MENU AND TRY TO ADJUST THE CONVERGENCE, OR US THE AUTO JUST. ON SOME SETS IT IS ON THE FRONT. IF IT DOESN'T CORRECT THE PROBLEM THEN IT IS CONVERGENCE. I REPAIR 2-3 A WEEK. WE DO IT IN THE HOUSE, NO NEED TO TAKE THE SET OUT. MAKE SURE THEY REPLACE BOTH CHIP'S AND THAT THEY USE ORIGINAL PARTS, THE GENERICS DON'T HOLD UP. THEY USUALLY LAST 3-5 YEARS DEPENDING ON THE USAGE OF THE SET. DON..
Sounds like you have a bad convergence chip in the convergence board. Unfortunatly, about 80% of the rear projection sets I work on have this similar problem. I suggest that you change both chips ( there are 2 of the same ) and remember to use heat sink compound as this is why you not have the problem ( excessive heat destoys electronic components). Good Luck
