I updated my bios to a newer version and when I restarted windows, the wireless stopped working. I tried to install new drivers for the Atheros AR5007EG / chipsets / realtek audio / network adapters but nothing works.

Network adapter is unable to connect. I believe because I accidentally changed the passphrase. I have no idea what the original passphrase was and the new passphrase is not working. Suggestions how to correct this?
    I have:
tried to reinstall the modem- didnt work
    creating new connection/network- didnt work

    system restore- didnt work
    the atheros driver is blocked.
However, I can take the laptop to work and wireless works fine there- so the problem is here within the home. Would calling the service provider to change IP work?

Try to check on the device manager if the wireless adapter and the ethernet adapters were installed properly. If it appears with a questionmark, uninstall it and try reinstalling it without the ethernet cable connected.

If you are using Vista system, after installing the adapters, go to the network connections and just click on tcp/ip then click on properties. Exit from the window by clicking ok until all windows will be closed for the network connections. Reboot your pc and try if you can obtain a connection.

I have a compaq presario F756nr with an Atheros wireless wi-fi card in it. Can I replace the wi-fi card with a Broadcom 802.11 b/g wireless LAN card?

no you cannot replace the built-in wi-fi card...
if you try to change the drivers for atheros wi-fi to Broadcam driver, your wi-fi card will not function anymore.... but you can always install another WI-FI card in your laptop... you can buy a USB Adapter or a Cardbus(PCMCIA) adapter for this purpose...if you want your wi-fi signal strenth and range to be higher, you can opt to buy an adapter which comes under N standard....N standard wi-fi adapters are capable of connecting at a speed of more than 300mbps(practically) to any N standard device like router....

Hi,

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings, but before you perform this remove power from the modem and router for 2 minutes reconnect power and wait another 2 minutes for them to settle down.

Go to your laptop, right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

Good luck
