Once the router security is set up, you never access it again for new computers to access it.

You need to setup the security for the computer's wireless card that you are trying to get to access the router.

Reply back the computers and the operating systems that you are trying to get to access the router, and I'll help you through this. I will also need to know of any settings that you made in the router (I don't want to know the passwords or anything, just what you setup.).

Go to your browser and paste this into the url field
192.168.1.1

you will be asked your admin name and password, (you entered these when you first set up linksys)

it should bring up your linksys admin page with all of your settings.

Do this on the computer that the box is installed on. You can adjust your WEP Code, Settings, Name on the network... Etc. Etc. Etc.

I believe that is the right one for this router, if not let me know.

You can uninstall it from start menu->control panel ->add remove programs for vista or win7 go to start->control panel->program and features. Then uninstall it's software from there you can also configure router without software with below method. You can also configure it with below method.
Connect your router to computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following default link. http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.0.1 or http://192.168.15.1 or http://192.168.2.1 If you are not able to access it with above ip then check your computers ip address gateway ip is your router ip try with it. Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. Then click on WAN settings set it as your internet service provider settings enable DHCP Then click on wireless and enable it. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password. How do i add new laptop to my secure router, where is list of allowed devices

The WRT54G is notorious for its lack of security controls. You are more likely to tell it what cannot connect than what can. If you want to restrict access I would suggest enabling wireless security and setting a password.

How do set a password to secure my connection

I have found this website detailing the steps necessary to setting up your Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router with a password. You can skip steps 7 - 8, unless you know about MAC address filtering, and wish to implement it (MAC address filtering allows only the computers you specify by their MAC address to connect to your network, eliminating outside computers from connecting to it).

How do i make my unsecured network secure? using linksys WRT54G v8

Access the setup page of router by typing 192.168.1.1 in the address bar.

By default, leave the username blank and the password is admin.

Once on the setup page, go to Wireless. Under Basic Wireless settings, change the default SSID Linksys into any name. This will allow you to easily determine which is your wireless network.

Then go to Wireless Security and enable WEP. Type a passphase and click the generate button. Take note of the Network key. Remember that you will use this network key to all wireless computers.

On your wireless computer, view the available wireless networks or site survey. Select your SSID and enter the network key to connect.

I hope this helps!

Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router Issue Allows 1 Computer at a time

Your router my not be DCHP enabled or it might not be assigning the IP addresses either.

I would do a reset and start all over with your security settings and see if that works. Worst case scenario you could always turn security off when your parents or others are there.

Ineed to access the router to lock it

To connect to your wireless router, it needs the router’s wireless settings configured and also needs the wireless cards in all the laptops and or computers to be configured with the router’s wireless settings. Then the laptops and desktop computers can communicate with your wireless router.

To set-up and secure the wireless router from unauthorized access, follow these steps: -
1. Connect the wireless router to your computer with a LAN cable.
2. Start your browser and enter the router's configuration URL IP address. (http://192.168.1.1)
3. Enter the router setup, login and password (default Login = admin

and default PW = admin unless you have already changes it)
4. Change the admin password
5. Go to the wireless settings and change the default SSID and turn off SSID broadcast.
6. Setup encryption key the strongest is WPA2 (if not then WPA).
7. For further security measures - turn on MAC address filtering and enter the MAC address of the wireless cards on the computer/s you want to connect to this wireless router.
8. Record the settings you have made and keep it in a safe place and Save the settings.
9. Configure the wireless cards on the computer/s with the SSID and encryption settings of the router.
10. Remove the LAN cable between the router and the computer then the computers should be able to connect to the router wirelessly.

The security you have installed on your system is restricting access to the router. Whatever security you are using, you need to add the router's ip address i.e. 192.168.1.1 in the exception list.

Wireless connection

The first step is to set up the connection without security to make sure it works.

When you say password and you refering to the wireless access password or the password to access the router's control panel?

If you need the password for the control panel you are left with no choice but to reset the router.
