Smudge down one side-- Toshiba

https://www.tonergiant.co.uk/blog/2017/05/black-lines-down-the-page-4-causes-and-how-to-fix/

Sadly, the poential fix is a step by step process where each step either solves the problem or doesn't thus forcing you to move to the next step. The procedure on the above listed page includes cleaning, which you indicate having performed. Each time you try to print, you undo your cleaning in this instance. Look for advice for your specific model of printer. Toshiba has interactive tutorials. https://tbs.toshiba.com/tbs/support/#downloads

PRINTING IMAGES ON CD'S/DVD'S - SMUDGES / i865

After looking at a picture of the CD you were printing to, I see the problem. The printer is trying to print blue ink on the middle of the CD, where the hole is. The problem is, since there's a hole that ink is going through and getting onto the rollers in the printer. It's then transferring back to your media as it moves through the printer. It's C shaped because you're only printing on about half of the hole. There are two ways to fix this. Either put a round piece of tape over the hole to cover it (and thus the paper will be printed on), or change your image so it doesn't print to that part of the CD. I'd suggest the latter, as it will look neater when you're done.

4 - black ink smudges (1/32" wide x 1/16" high) in right margin

Very nice trouble shooting. The image defect you describe point to the OPC or drum unit this is essentially the toner cart. In your case black. Measureing the distance between repetitive defects is a sure way of diagnosing problems such as yours. Again nice work.

Google repetitive defect ruler for your model to help in the future.

Hope this helps

Canon PIXMA MX700 printhead immediately coated with ink, smudges

It's likely that the foam pads that the print head rests on when the printer is not in use are saturated with ink. They're to the right as you look into the printer: a rectangular one for black ink and a square one for the colored ink. If you power the printer off and back on, with the cover open, you'll see where the printhead goes to rest.

The pads aren't easy to get at, but you can blot them with a paper towel. Gummy, half-dried ink dissolves in rubbing alcohol, and you can soak a paper towel or a cotton ball with alcohol and wipe down the area. I've had good luck soaking the pads with alcohol, then blotting them dry with a rag.

Smeared lines

Okay, this was the problem I posted a few days ago. It's fixed now, so in case you have the same problem with smearing, here's what the help desk from Canon suggested: Open the cover and remove the ink cartridges. There is a gray lever in front of the cartridges. Lift this lever and the printhead can be easily removed.
Our printhead had a buildup of black ink on the surface. I carefully removed this with rubbing alcohol. I let the printhead dry and replaced everything. No more smearing. Imagine a help-desk that actually helped!

Black ink smudges for color print mode only, not for grayscale

- Try to reallign the cartridge, run a print test, after that if the issue still persist - uninstall and reinstall software - run test and re-allign again the cardtridge using software. run print test again.

Black ink smudges

if this is within the return policy at the store where you bought it, exchange for a new one,

it maybe the fuser is defective or not getting hot enough.

Color lines/dashes at top and middle of page when printing.

Amand321,

Your problem lies with the fact that you manually refilled your cartridges. This is not recommended by any technician I know and your solution is in the replacement of all your cartridges with genuine brother consumables. It is going to be expencive, but it is the only real solution.
