Soft white light on screen when screen should be black

When screen should be black, the right side of the screen has a soft white glow. I am just concerned that something might be going wrong with the TV. It is about 3 years old and I would like to know if there is anything I need to do.

Your TV most likely has one of two possible problems.

Problem #1: Convergence Chip Failure ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directiSoft white light on screen when screen should be b - 2c07611.pngnvergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You need to replace the convergence chips and convergence resistors. Check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. They have put together a kits for most models. If you don't see a kit for your set send them a quick note and they will put one together for you. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, etc.

Problem #2 CRT Fluid is Cloudy

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from www.TvRepairKits.com that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.

I bought a 52" Polaroid for like 50$ and the

the white circles are called halos caused by technically a burn-in u either ignore or change the screens particularly the one on the inside for a new one......the halos have made a burn-in on the screen its like taking a spot light and pointing it to a surface for long the light will eventually image its circular image on the surface like a discolouration hence the snow like white balls as u call them....another suspect the optical dome glass maybe dirty u got to open the box screen chamber and use a soft cloth to clean it

How to replace both inner and outer tv screens ?

Relativity easy to do yourself, but better if you have some one to help, all you need is a Philips head screwdriver, and the replacement screens, the technical name for them are Lenticular Screen, and Fresnel, one is white, and the other is black.

You start by taking off the screws in the back of the the TV, there are screws along the top, both sides, and there are two on the the bottom right, and two on the bottom left, and there are three on the front by the power and channel and volume buttons. then grab one side and have your partner grab the other, and pull straight off.

IMPORTANT!!!!! DO NOT TOUCH THE WHITE SCREEN WITH YOUR BARE HANDS, IT IS COVERED WITH A POWDER AND CANNOT COME INTO CONTACT WITH ANY FLUIDS, INCLUDING THE OIL ON YOUR HANDS!

There are four bars that hold the screens in, one on top, bottom left and right. to remove the top, left and right you have to wiggle them loose after removing the screws.

The Black screen will go in first, make sure that the smooth side is what you will be looking at when you are done, the white screen will go right on top of it, the rough side of the white screen will meet with the rough side of the black screen.

then put the screen assembly back on, and replace screws.

I hope this helps, if you have any questions, let me know.

We have a red and green light shining through the screen. You can only notice it when the background is white.

You may need to clean the projection lenses (all 3). They can usually be accessed by removing the rear cover and removing the light deflection plate (it just keeps light from leaking out of the TV into the area behind your TV). Dirty lenses scatter the light and cause dim, washed out images. Clean them with a soft dry cloth to remove the dust, but do not scrub. Once the free dust is removed, lightly moisten a soft cloth with dish water and continue cleaning the lenes. Dry and polish lightly with a soft cloth.

My nephew spray windex on my dlp tv and not is in between both screens n it black but you can move the water still with your fingers

Well I'll say this. There has been no damage done yet. The problem is that the windex has wicked up in between the Lenticular screen and the Fresnel lens screen. If you attempt to seperate both screens yourself then I can guarentee you will damage both screens.
Not cheap to replace both screens. The screens CAN be cleaned with a screen cleaner from Screen Clean but the real problem is finding a Highly qualified technician who has done this many times before. The Fresnel lens screen is EXTREMELY soft and has tiny ridges that damage very very easily and you will see permenant black streaks in the picture. Never use Windex,Amonia or 409 and the like cleaners on the screens. When you use a screen cleaner, spray the cleaner on a MICRO cloth (Very Soft) then carefully clean the scree. Like I said, the screens can be cleaned safely only by a Highly skilled technician. The black spots from the windex will not eventually go away. Contact the tv manufacture as they can direct to a authorized service center they trust.

Remove the upper back and clean the three projector lenses with Windex and soft paper towel. You have dust build up. If there are smokers in the house then also windex the back side of the screen to get the nicotine film off. This cured my picture. I had lost fine detail and the picture looked like there was a white haze over it.
