Question about SimpleTech 250GB USB2.0 7200 RPM External 250 GB IDE Hard Drive

1 Answer

SimpleTech 250GB External Hard Drive can not be accessed

I bought a hard drive over the internet. It was used but according to the store it was still in good condition. For about a week in a half it worked fine but a friend of mine reformatted my laptop. When I tried to get back to the data in my external drive the computer only recognized it as an USB attachment. I have tried to access the drive on several other machines and still nothing. I would let this go but I transferred many sentimental and important files onto the drive. Is there any way to get a hold of the files. I was told I should have someone who works in computer forensics work on it but if there is something I can do to recover my files please let me know. I am desperate to get the files some of them are essential for my job.

Hi Blakelynefit;

All my not be lost. You've a lot of really great freeware options for file recovery if you're running Windows. Notable apps include Undelete Plus , PC Inspector File Recovery , and Restoration. Undelete Plus is the most user-friendly option of the bunch, with advanced filtering options that make it easy to find your needle of a file among the haystack of deleted garbage, but in my tests I found both Restoration and PC Inspector File Recovery to be more effective at recovering files. (Of course, your mileage may vary.) As an added bonus, the bare bones Restoration is portable, which makes it an excellent addition to a thumb drive or external SimpleTech 250GB Drive.
UPDATE: Per several readers advice, you may also want to check out Recuva another freeware Windows file recovery tool.

Good Luck,

Mark

can you access the music with windows media player? If you can, itunes is corrupted as you moved the music to a new drive and itunes will only look for it in the itunes folder it sets up. Best option is reinstall itunes and it will find your music on the new drive.

Purchased about two months ago. the external drive turns constatly making a grindin sound.

You need to RMA (Return to Manufacturer) your external hard drive. Most hard drives have a pretty decent warranty on them. Your simpletech 250GB has a 3 year warranty on it. Info on the warranty can be found at http://www.simpletech.com/support/warranty/. If you want to RMA it, click the "Technical Support / RMA Request" on the left hand side of that page.

PLEASE HELP

It is just like any other disc drive. You can set up folders to store your music. You can store music, files, videos, whatever you'd like.
It should be assigned a drive letter like d: e: or f: You can simply copy your music files to it.

Be more specific as to to how you are trying to use the Simpletech drive to store music.
