Dryer won't start and smells like something is burning

I've been having problems with my Maytag Performa PYE3300AYW dryer. The dryer won't start and makes a loud buzzing sound when I try to start it. Also smells like something is burning. Have cleaned the lint trap and opened the whole dryer up to clean it out and am still having the same problem. Would appreciate any suggestions!

Thanks for the advice. Will check those out. Could be the thermal fuse, too. Will let you know. Thanks.

The motor would have normaly caused this as when you start it / its the only thing that makes noise and moves . if new motro didn't correct then the ck the wiring harness / it sounds like the start winding is not getting power . .ck from the timer to the motor ..motor should spin by hand / belt would not cause this . ( go for the timer .. **** )

It is possible that the motor start/run capacitor has failed, rendering the motor unable to get going. The capacitor will look something like this

May Maytag dyer Performa Model number PYE3300AYW will not start the light in the dryer is off i turned to turn off and on the breaker but nothing happens. My question is that if the light needs to be...

no the light has nothing to do with the dryer not running, sounds like a breaker issue. You will need a multimeter and some screwdrivers. first make sure that the breaker has power, you will need to take the front panel off, then with the meter check for your 220 volts at the breaker(where the wires are hooked up), next check for voltage at the outlet, if all these have power then it is in the dryers cord, you will need to move the dryer out and remove the plate and check for voltage, if it does then you will have to trace it into the dryer. Good Luck Tim

Wont start, smells like something is burniing

if its electric burning smell, its either a overheating motor, capacitor or both or burnt connections, sounds like a motor problem,it will be very hot to touch if its failing, check capacitor though as it could be causing motor to overheat, rating of cap is on side

Dryer stoped running

Your drive belt may have broken if it smelled like rubber burning. If that is the case then your motor bearing are worn out or something has been lodged between your dryer drum and the dryer housing. If the smell was the odor of burning plastic, then your motor is probably burned up.

It could very well be a thermostat problem, however, it could also be the drive motor itself starting to burn out. Some dryers are equipped with a "Thermal Limiter" that will cut the power to heat. It doesn't seem to be the case for you. I would defiantely look into another thermostat but if it comes down to the motor, depending on the price, You may want to buy a new dryer.

Maytag dryer problem

sounds like the motor. if the motor gets too hot then the overload on the motor wont let it come back on until it cools off
