This was actually the first thing I did when I noticed it was no longer working. The device manager says everything is fine. I need to know how to replace the entire drive.

Go to device manager and see if the device has a yellow triangle with question mark next to the name of the device. If it does, then right click on it, go to properties and see if there is any type of error code. If there is an error code, then search for that code on microsoft's website.

I cannot play or burn cd/dvd

Go into my computer to check it is there, if yes! go into device manager to see if it's listed. If everything is in place you may have a defective DVD drive unit. If you feel it works you can attempt a system restore and bring the computer back to an earlier time before this happened.

My laptop fujitso siemens li2727 can't recognise its DVD driver ,the external DVD driver and my internet modem

if this is a windows 7 PC
  1. go to the start menu
  2. type "device manager" in the search bar
  3. select "device manager"
  4. now go to DVD/CD-ROM drives
  5. right click on all affected DVD drives and repeat steps as necessary
  • right click on "example DVD drive" and select from the menu to uninstall it
  • the devices will refresh and you will no longer see your drive, do not worry
  • go to the top of the window to the "action" menu
  • select "scan for hardware changes"
this should resolve everything

DVD/CD-ROM drive missing

Problem with missing dvd-drive with Acer 5101 solved.
Problem was that depending on boot, even bios couldn?t detect dvd-drive. I
opened my laptop and found out that there were one small screw that wasn?t
connected to anywhere. I opened the screw that locks dvd-drive in to 2.5? slot. In the back of the
dvd-drive is L- shaped peace of metal. One of it?s screws were already dropped
and 2 that were left were loose. I tightened those screws, but drive back and
got my laptop working fine.

1. Completely remove any dvd/cd player/burner softwares (i.e. Nero, Power DVD, etc.).
2. Go to device manager and remove your DVD/CD device from the device list
3. Restart you laptop
4. Windows will then try to reinstall the device drivers again for the DVD drive.
5. After another restart, then reinstall your dvd softwares again.
