Question about Lexmark X7170 All-In-One Scan/Copy/Fax and Photo Printer

Communication with printer not available for Lexmark 7170 printer

I have suddenly lost communication with the printer...have tried disconnecting/connecting main power cable, and USB cables...does not fix the problem. Printer working OK as a standalone.

Please advise

Lexmark 7170 all in one scanner not working - printer and copier is working


A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

If you're scanning documents for editing, make sure that the Lexmark OCR scan software is installed on your computer. The OCR scan software is only available on the installation disc that came with your printer (no downloadable version). If you have the disc, simply insert the disc into your computer hard drive and execute the file.

My Lexmark Platinum PRO905 does ot print it gives me the message " Communication Not Available, The Printer cannot communicate with the computer"

This could be a firewall issue. Make sure to allow full access to all Lexmark softwares and printer communication processes in the program rules/permissions for your firewall.



Place your printer where it receives excellent wireless signal quality and away from other electronic devices which can cause wireless interferences (e.g. cordless phones, microwave ovens, baby monitors, garage door openers, and other wireless electronics).

It could be just a minor communication issue. Try to unplug your printer from your computer. Unplug and replug your printer into the power source to reset itself. My computer is'nt comunication with the printer


It could be just a slight communication issue. Try to unplug your printer from your computer. Then unplug the printer from the power source. Replug after 10 seconds. When the printer turns on, replug it into your computer. Doing this usually fixes minor communication issues. Communication between my computer and printer not available


First check the cables between the computer and printer. Make sure they are all plugged in correctly. If that doesn't work, then remove and reinstall the printer drivers and software.
