In my whirlpool side by side fridge freezer, the thin metal "handle" that you move up and down to make (or stop making) ice has pulled out of the spot it was in and it wont make ice anymore. I cant get in there to find where it is supposed to be connected. Anyone have any insight? Thank you!

Re: Ice maker "handle" has been pulled out.
You can reinsert the bail arm back into the icemaker by feel or remove the icemaker and reinsert it. I'm going to give you instructions with the ice maker still mounted to the wall. on the back upper right hand corner of you ice maker you will you will feel a square shped hole at the top. right below this hole is our target. you can use a small mirror to locate this area you will see a white oblong hole that the bail arm end will be inserted into. since the icemaker is not working the arm will ahve to be inserted with the arm in the up position. when you insert the arm you need to do so firmly to make sure the arm goes in all the way. if you cant find the corret spot write me back and I'll walk you through removing the i/m to insert teh arm that way.

IF YOU TAKE THE BACK PANEL OFF INSIDE THE FREEZER YOU WILL FIND A PIECE OF METAL UNDER THE EVAPORATOR COILS IN MIDDLE OF THIS METAL PAN IS A HOLE THAT LEADS THE WATER TO THE BOTTOM OF THE REF FOR EVAPORATION THE HOLE IN THE PAN IS PROBABLY PLUGGED TAKE THE ICE OUT AND CLEAR THER HOLE
If you have a whirlpool icemaker inside of your freezer (I've read on other posts that whirlpool ice makers are installed in various makes and models), there is a white cover over the ice maker (it's square). Remove the square cover with your hands or stick a flat head screwdriver in the side until you can pull it off.
Once the white square cover is removed, you should see a white wheel with gear teeth. In the middle of the white wheel is a plastic snap that should be holding it in. I noticed that one of the little plastic snaps was broken...which caused my "no ice" problem. A simple test is to push the white wheel toward the icemaker. If the wheel starts turning, you have found the problem. You see, behind the whhite wheel are metal contacts that need pressure for the ice maker to work. Without the center plastic snaps holding it it, the pressure is gone...and so is the metal to metal contact.
I previously called Whirlpool, searched all of the web...to no avail. Every other solution was "check for ice blocking the water tube" or "replace your water filter". That's all balony. If your regular water dispenser is working, you don't have an ice problem. And if your water dispenser is working, you don't have to change your fitler either.
If you realize that the little white wheel is the culprit, just google "whirlpool module" and you will see it for sale. I found one on ebay for under thirty buckaroos with free shipping.
It is normal for the middle strip to be hot. Did you check the temp setting in the fridge section?
Also - you might check for blockage in the bottom. Excessive dirt/dog hair can block the air flow.
Freezer too cold and not much water. When it is empty of ice check the water level in the ice tray. Probably not even halfway up. Unplug fridge for 8 hours and plug it back in. Need more help please live chat. If this has helped, please rate as fixya.
