Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

Craftsman Garage door opener not working

Neither the remotes or the hardwired opener will open the door. Checked the sensors, they align, there is a green flashing light on the actual unit. When you push the opener, the unit just hums for two seconds and the green light flashes on the unit. I tried resetting the unit by pushing the green reset button by the green light. I also held down the opener button, it still does not work. Any ideas?

First, check the springs in the actual door to make sure that they are not broke. Since you held the learn button down to reset the opener, you have to reprogram all of your remotes. This button only resets the remotes. It has nothing to do with the rest of the opener. To reset the opener, simply unplug it for a couple of minutes and then plug back in. Pull the handle on the door and see if you can operate the door manually with one hand. If it takes more than 15lbs to move the door, there is a problem with the door balance. If the springs are not broke and the door operates smoothly, the likely cause is the rpm sensor on the opener.

Is your unit hardwired? If not batteries are likely issue, if it ever corroded, due to battery leak, the connection fails early on subsequent batteries..Consider anti battery acid gel.

if it is hardwired, look for damage on wiring. something laid against the wiring or controls...

Hardwired code opener no longer works

Here are the directions to program your hardwired keypad.

First unplug the garage door opener from the electrical outlet. Next remove the nameplate from the console that the keypad plugs into and locate the program/operate switch. Flip the switch to program. Next, enter your desired four-digit PIN number into the keypad. Slide the switch back to operate and plug the garage door opener back in. The keypad should be programmed.

6 month old garage door will work.

On the back of the opener near where all those white wires go you will find 2 controls. One is labeled "up force." Increase this about 1/4 turn.

Are the sensor lights located on each side of the garage door opening? Have you checked to see if they are in alignment with each other? Also check to see that any wire from the sensors are disconnected on the motor or at the sensor itself. Good Luck! Countrycurt0

Door will only close when held down

That normally happens when the sensors aren't aligned. Both sensors have led lights on them the yellow/orange one will stay on all the time the green one will go out if it cant see the other sensor. Possibly theres a wire that's broken or the other sensor is really out of alignment. Check every inch of wiring from the sensor to the opener, remove wire nuts if present and check the connections. The wires that are used are small, solid and can break easily. Also see if there's a staple that's too tight, move the wire abit where it's stapled and look for damage.
