Check to make sure you don't have the batt+ wire and switched 12v wire mixed up. batt+ is usually yellow or orange while the switched 12v wire is usually red, consult the manual or look on the unit itself. there should be a wire color description there. batt+ is what you want 12v running to all the time to keep the settings. switched 12v is the one that turns the unit on when the key is turned on. the unit will still operate if the 2 are backwards but like you said it will clear the memory every time you shut it off because your cutting power to the batt+ wire thus resetting the unit.

i double checked and the constant (memory) wire is yellow aka. batt+ and the switched (accessory) wire is red. aka 12v switched, yellow to always on 12v source and red to accessory switched 12 v.

When i preset my radio stations 1-6 while the power is still to the system memory of stations will stay but when the car stereo power is turn off for any amount of time and sterio is turn back on all...

Make sure the yellow wire is connected to a source that still has voltage when the key is turned off. The yellow wire controls the memory of the deck.

Hi I have just installed my now JVC KD-R616 and stumped on two issues, one is the orange wire with white stripe from the deck the install sheet says wire to car light control switch, what is its purpose?...

The orange light to the light control is usually for the face/display dimmer. When the headlights are on it tells the display to dim so as not to be too bright while driving. It can go to just about any interior light that is on when the headlights are switched on. Ashtray light is usually the easiest. As for the continuity on the constant/memory wire. It has to be constant with the key off as if connected directly to the battery. Turn the key off and check for a blank accessory location in the fuse box with a test light. If hooked to that, be sure to install an in line fuse in an accessible location. The black wire may very well be the memory wire from the original radio.
I hope I've helped. If so please rate my assistance and leave a testimonial.

Does not hold power so all of the presets and the time are reset. Only turns on if the dash lights are on. It also skips quite frequently. What could be the problem?

First you should take the deck out and the yellow wire is your memory it shoul have full time power and not hooked to your dash lights this will cure your memory problem and possibly the cd problem. If you know how to use a multi meter test all wires on DC setting on meter and your looking for 12 volts all the time key switch on or off for the yellow memory wire then for the red wire you need 12 volts only when the key switch is turned on. Then the black wire is the ground no voltage at all. Hope this helps. leve feedback if so.

Deck turns off when i hit a bump in my car

A couple things...but the deck must come out to check. (assuming this is a 12v N.American car) If you cannot remove or you dont know how - take it to a car stero shop. Electrical fires are nasty!
  1. Make sure there are no open wires and connections are tight and taped (badly crimped connectors will hide loose connections)
  2. Make sure the deck is supported in the back-it should not wiggle around.
  3. There should be a wire firmly connected to the chassis of the car and the back chassis of the deck - Please do not drill into the deck - use an existing bolt !

My memory wont work after 5 minutes or truck shut off but will after a minute or less

Are you positive that the yellow (memory wire) from the Panasonic (use a test lamp or meter) is continuing to get power after you turn off the truck and wait 5 minutes? And the Black ground is proper ... If so then it will likely cost more to repair the deck than replace it. Or you could wire the red wire to the same place the yellow wire is wired to ... then just remember to shut it off when you leave the car (or suffer a dead battery 12 hours later) ... and it won't cost more that the cost of a couple crimp connectors to do that ... the frugal way.

Installing pioneer deck

Considering you have done many installs, make sure you check the fuse in the back of the unit. Then check all the fuses in your car. My car has 4 fuses for the radio.

You might best bet would be on the memory wire not being shot solid 12 volts. There are 2 wires meant for 12 volts the red one which has 12 volts on it when the car is turned on only. And the yellow wire which should be at 12 volts all the time. If you have power at the Yellow wire at all times then you might have a deeper issue. I hope this will fix it.
