Craftsman gas hedge trimmer

Trimmer starts sometimes, then stops. Spark plug has been cleaned with fine sandpaper, gas oil mixture perfect (use craftsman two cycle oil).

Does the carb need adjusting?

Yes the throttle isnt giving enough gas. there should be two screws side by side somewere near the trigger next to the cable that moves when you pull the trigger. play around withthose screw a few hours youll get it.

My hedge trimmer will not start... Put in new gas

It's not getting gas, due to being gummed up with old gas. Remove all of the old gas and mix up a batch of fresh gas&oil. Also get some carb cleaner. Put just a little of the gas&oil mix plus an equal part carb cleaner. Try to start it just to work the new mixture through the carb. You might use the spray start to help pull the new gas through. If it fires up on the new gas&oil&carbcleaner mix, shut it off and let it sit for an hour or two. Drain it out and try just a little gas&oiil without the carb cleaner. If all is well fill the tank. If not, repeat the whole process. If you can't clear the gum this way you may have to remove the carb to clean it. Good luck.

Craftsman Hedge Trimmer model 358.796353 that won't operate

The problem you are experiencing is the coil. I had the same problem and confronted a freind that works on small engines. I asked him if the coil could be the problem and he gave me one to try out of another trimmer he had for parts. It is running well. The problem I now have is the blade tang that moves it back and forth broke. Now I'm trying to locate one of them.
