If I use the Svideo or audio video input the TV shuts itself off. Sometime it works for ten minutes other times it will work for 5 hours. If I use the antenna/cable input it is fine. However that has now broken off.

The Lifestyle 38 has no HDMI output. It all depends on what inputs your TV has, which cable set up would be the best for you. Assuming that your TV has an SVideo input, you indeed can use the SVideo output of the Bose system, to get the DVD picture on your TV. However you will need to connect the audio output of the TV to the TV input of the LS 38 to get the TV sound to play over your LS 38. In case you don't have an SVideo connection on your TV, you can use the composite output of the Bose system and connect it to the video input of your TV (yellow in and outputs)
The only solution to your problem if the tv does not have rca inputs is to optain a converter thant converts coax to rca........ but if the tv has an svideo input that would work as well with a mini to mini audio plub
for video, 3ways and any of this should work.
Step1, video out of dvd to video in on top at video1 section on tv. or
Step2, svideo out of dvd to svideo in at video1 section on tv. or
Step3. using component video
DVD unit component video out to TV unit component video in at video2
Y to Y input of TV
Pb to Pb input of TV
Pr to Pr input of TV
for audio, connect left/right audio of dvd to left/right input of tv. Input section of TV is in the middle. on tv back panel from left to right is antenna input, IN section - this is it, use this for all your connections.
let us know if you have any issues. thanks.
1. Video-out to TV: You should be able to connect the receiver to the TV with any / all of the available video modes.
However, if you don't have the HDMI connection, then the Video-In on the TV would have to be switched back-n-forth between Composite / S-Video, depending on how each device is connected to the receiver. [If the TV has 'auto-sensing' Video-In then it should automatically detect the incoming signal from the receiver whether S-Video or Composite or Component.]
2. Audio-Input to receiver: As the receiver provides only two Coax-Inputs, you would have to first assign Coax-1 to DVD and Coax-2 to Cable. Then connect the coax cables accordingly; that should do the trick and allow you to hear the cable sound over coax.
If you still have a problem then check the 'Input mode' setting; leaving it on Coax-1/2 (Auto) would be the better option. This is on pg. 50 of my manual "Specifying the Digital Signal Format".
usually a tv that doesn't "see" video on the S-video will not even "switch" to it. It just goes to the next Svideo, RCA etc..
Make sure your cable is not damaged. (on both ends) Does the svideo source and svideo cable work with another tv or video device?
31GT740 Manual
From the Manual: " WHO•INPUT In TV mode, press WHO•INPUT to toggle through the available Video Input
channels (VID/SVID and the current channel). In SAT mode, press to select available channel lists.
Using the WHO•INPUT Button
Use the WHO•INPUT button to toggle through the available input sources (VID and the current
channel) and view the content from the component you have connected to the TV.
1. Press TV to place the remote in TV mode. Make sure that the content from the component is
turned ON.
2. Press WHO•INPUT to tune to the available input source and view the component.
3. Press WHO•INPUT again to tune back to the channel you were previously watching. "
