Question about Bose Acoustic Wave® Shelf System

1 Answer

Bose Wave AW1 need to know how to safely disassemble it.

My old Bose Wave still works, but the cassette is locked shut and most of the buttons on top don't work. The sound is still great, but I just want to be able to use the input function to play sound from laptop or keyboard through it, and that function just quit working.

Since I was not able to find either an owner's manual, a repair manual,a schematic, or any other help for disassembling or repairing a BoseWave model AW1 online, I had to just experiment with trying to fix theproblem I had with it. Bose also would not accept the unit to bereturned for repair because they said it was too old. They wouldonly offer a small trade in amount on a purchase of a new replacementunit.

So, I first tried removing all the screws on the bottom of the unit tosee how it might be disassembled. While I was able to get thebottom of the unit removed by unplugging four connectors, that did notprovide access to the upper portion of the unit.

Next, I removed screws on each side and across the back of the unit andthat allowed the top portion of the unit to come loose, but not yet beremoved because a cassette tape was still stuck inside. At this point,I concluded that since the unit was not working any way, I may as well(gently) try to force open the cassette lid. That sort of workedin that it broke the cassette, but fortunately did not break the Bose.I was then able to slide off the cassette slot lid, remove thecassette, and then remove the top part of the Bose case.

To my great relief, I found that this action relieved whatever wascausing the buttons on top of the Bose to not work, and they apparentlybecame reset and working properly. Just getting the stuckcassette tape out of the unit seemed to allow all of the buttons thathad quit working to work again. I don't know if the cassette tapewill work or not, but since my main objective was to get the inputbutton to work, I may not even bother with trying to get the cassettetape to work again. I'll try to post a photo atwww.upquick.com/view/bose.jpg

How do I change lens on Bose Wave CD player

You need to buy the correct replacement lens - usually on ebay is a good selection. Keywords - Bose Laser. Email the seller, and ask for help to identify which lens you need.

Then disassemble your machine, and install the new lens.

If that's too complicated for you, have a local technician do the work.

How do I turn radio on? Is there an old-fashioned "on/off" button? The battery in the remote needs to be replaced but in the meantime,is there a way to turn the radio on?!?!?! Many thanks!

If you have new generation of Bose wave radio with no buttons on the top, it would be no other way, but with remote. Need to know the model number.

Remote does not work, battery is good. Can I program my dish network remote? If so what codes can I use.

Sorry to hear about your original remote; we would be happy to help you with addressing your DISH remote to your Bose Wave Radio. Here is a list of some of the codes that we havefor Bose Wave Radio: 761, 664, 656, and 639.

Press and hold the AUX mode button until all mode buttons at the top of theremote come on, then release. Enter the number 2 then one of the codes for your Bose Wave Radio provided above. Press the pound (#) button, the mode light should flashthree times. Check that the code works by trying several different functions onthe remote to make sure it will properly operate your Bose Wave Radio. Keep in mindthat some codes may not be compatible with your equipment. If this is the case, please try the other codes listed for that device until you find one that iscompatible with your equipment.

We hope this helps you, and thank you for being a valued DISH Network Customer!

Non-working CD in Bose wave radio

Try replacing the battery on the bottom of the system - alot of people miss it because you have it constantly plugged into the mains, but replacing this (somehow) re-sets the system, and 9 times out of 10 solves the issue.

Replace fuse Bose Wave Radio

For the AWR1-1W turn it over and there are 4 screws that you must remove. When your looking at the circuit board the fuse is just below the power supply and back of radio. If the radio makes a ‘POP’ sound when you unplug it may not be the fuse as power is getting past the fuse. I have the same trouble with mine. I called BOSE Tech and he said if it makes that ‘POP’ sound after unplugging it is not fuse or power supply. They will not even allow me to send it in for repairs as the radio is over 15 years old and considered unserviceable.

Maybe someone else can give us a quick fix.
