Question about Bose Acoustic Wave® Shelf System
My old Bose Wave still works, but the cassette is locked shut and most
of the buttons on top don't work. The sound is still great, but I
just want to be able to use the input function to play sound from
laptop or keyboard through it, and that function just quit working.
Since I was not able to find either an owner's manual, a repair
manual,a schematic, or any other help for disassembling or repairing a
BoseWave model AW1 online, I had to just experiment with trying to fix
theproblem I had with it. Bose also would not accept the unit to
bereturned for repair because they said it was too old. They
wouldonly offer a small trade in amount on a purchase of a new
So, I first tried removing all the screws on the bottom of the unit tosee how it might be disassembled. While I was able to get thebottom of the unit removed by unplugging four connectors, that did notprovide access to the upper portion of the unit.
Next, I removed screws on each side and across the back of the unit andthat allowed the top portion of the unit to come loose, but not yet beremoved because a cassette tape was still stuck inside. At this point,I concluded that since the unit was not working any way, I may as well(gently) try to force open the cassette lid. That sort of workedin that it broke the cassette, but fortunately did not break the Bose.I was then able to slide off the cassette slot lid, remove thecassette, and then remove the top part of the Bose case.
To my great relief, I found that this action relieved whatever wascausing the buttons on top of the Bose to not work, and they apparentlybecame reset and working properly. Just getting the stuckcassette tape out of the unit seemed to allow all of the buttons thathad quit working to work again. I don't know if the cassette tapewill work or not, but since my main objective was to get the inputbutton to work, I may not even bother with trying to get the cassettetape to work again. I'll try to post a photo atwww.upquick.com/view/bose.jpg
