OK, If TV is bit older one and have one HDMI port then hook cable box with TV through HDMI cable.
Connect home theater with TV through RCA connectors (either yellow or component video) and red-white for audio. In this arrangement you can listen cable box sound through home theater if you connect another red-white cable between TV Audio Out ( Monitor Out Audio) and input of home theater.

Both HDMI will hooked to TV as TV should have 2 HDMI inputs.
You can listen DVD sound by home theater system but cable box sound will come from TV only.

use component outputs of that unit to play on tv.Or use component or video output of sony unit and connect to cable box if available and use the source switching on cable box to change sources that way you wont have to unplu HDMI cable..By the way HDMI has a new challenger in the near future called ' DISPLAY PORT' ..

SOURCE: Sony surround sound hookup

In short, the answer is: Hook up all three to each other. I have a Samsung DLP HDTV, and I was trying to hook up a Sony DAV-HDX500 home-theater system and a Comcast HD set-top box, but I found that the Sony user guide is helpful only for setting up the speakers. Most of what it had to say about HDMI and getting the TV sound or cable sound to go through the speaker system was wrong (or, at least, it didn't work for me). So, here's what I did. I connected Component video cables (Y/Pb/Pr out) from the Cable box to the TV (Y/Pb/Pr in), audio cables from the Cable box (audio out) to the Sony system ("SAT/Cable" audio in), and an HDMI cable from the Sony system (HDMI out) to the TV (HDMI in). This allows me to 1) watch DVDs with surround sound through the TV's HDMI source (when the "DVD" format is selected on the Sony system), 2) watch cable with surround sound through the TV's Component source (when the "SAT/Cable" format is selected on the Sony system), and 3) watch cable WITHOUT the surround sound, as I did before I ever had the Sony system. One item of note: When watching a non-HD channel with the surrond sound on, the audio is slightly out of synch with the video; thankfully, there's no such problem on HD channels. Anyway, I hope this helps. It drove me crazy for two days straight!

SOURCE: hook up Sony Bravia Home Theater DAV-HDX277WC

Hi....I haven't hooked mine to the TV yet.....building my cabinet now....but I did hook up the components to make sure they worked and just didnt include a TV on it. My S-Air wireless linked up the first time I tried it....I will say this though, the little wireless transceivers blocks you have to plug into the DVD player and the S-Air do not go in like you would think. They actually look like they are upside down when you get them in, and the must snap in very securely. Make sure they dont just LOOK like they are plugged in. Also, dont get em to far away through too many walls, Try linking it sitting right close to the DVD. Also remember the S-Air remote has its own volume control as well as other controls....

I know I wasnt much help but I just got mine and I will be back with more after I try the surround sound on the TV.

I have a Sony SA-VE815ED SYSTEM. I have not used it in ten years. Can I hook it up to a HD TV?? Do I need a receiver?? How do I use the HDMI connections on video games, TV, etc?

The SA-VE815ED is a set of speakers. You'll need an receiver (with an amplifier either built in or separate) to connect the speakers to the TV. Depending on the receiver, you may be able to connect the HDMI cables from any set top box to the receiver and then have an HDMI out cable to the TV. (In this configuration, the TV speakers will not get the audio track. So you will want to ensure that the TV's speakers are off and the receiver is on when you play games.)

Alternatively, plug the HDMI cables directly into the TV and then connect the TV's audio out to the receiver. (Depending on the TV, your may need to get a receiver with digital audio inputs.)

Retrevo has the manual for the SA-VE815ED here: http://www.retrevo.com/support/Sony-SA-VE815ED-Speaker-Systems-manual/id/23108ci362/t/2/ . You'll need to enter a code to download the PDF.

I hope this helps.

Hey my nameis Mike Houston of DISH Network and I see there is a problem with the Sony hometheater system connecting with the DISH receiver. To get the full surroundsound you want there are two different options you can use, the first is to usethe HDMI and connect the RCA cable or you can use the Optical cable for sound. If you have any questions or concerns please e-mail me back; michael.houston@dishnetwork.com.

OK. For all you regular Joe's like me here's the fix--plain and simple! I have Dish Networks HD receiver, an LG Home Theater System (LHB953) and an LG HD Television - although I suspect this applies for most LG TV-to-LG Audio Systems used in combination with a HD TV). My problem lied within the LG to LG setting known as SIMPLINK which tries to "auto-configure" everything between LG to LG devices.

Do this to make your HD TV (using Dish/DirecTV) play it's HD video display from the satellite provider but play the audio over the LG surround sound speakers:

1. Plug a HDMI cable from your satelite receiver's set-top-box to your HD TV. This will carry your HD "video" ONLY. Click "Input" on the TV remote until the HD video signal shows your desired TV channel from your satellite provider.

2. Plug an HD Optical cable (the one with the red laser) from your LG HTS (Home Theater System) to your satellite box. This will carry your HD "audio" ONLY.

3. This is the magic everyone seems to be overlooking. On the LG TV remote, go into the menu options and disable SIMPLINK by setting SIMPLINK=OFF. This feature allows the video and audio signals to be split over 2 different ports: HD video goes over the HDMI cable and the audio to go over the HD Optical cable.

Hope this helps!

System works great with dvd, radio, and ipod dock. But when listening to the tv through the system, the sound is very low even when the volume is at its max.

It sounds like either the input selected to the receiver is wrong, the wires are not hooked up correctly, or the wires are bad. What type of connection are you using-RCA jacks, DVi connector, etc?

No sound from speakers when tv is on

It is likely that you do not have an HDMI cable connecting your cable/satelite set top box to the reciever. If you you run coxial striaght to your TV you will need a digital tuner and run the audio componet cable to the receiver and picture cable to the TV. Also be sure that TV out is perferably with optical audio. Hope this helps. If not its all listed simply in the owners manual. Try Sony's website if you lost it.

How to connect new HD cable box to receiver

HI:
You are using a new HD Cable box, that are using componet video cables for HD, Unfortunetly this receiver does not have componet inputs, so you will just have to run the audio from the televison directly to the receiver by connecting the video out and audio out from the television to the receiver's video Input one. This will require a normal RCA composite cables yellow, red, white. Connect one end of each of the cables to televisions output terminals, and the other to the input one on the receiver. Note: Your TV might have a seperate term called Monitor out, Connect the yellow here, and the red and white to audio out. You can do the same for the DVD but you have to use the same cables,Also the television will not display HD picture this way as this is not a HDTV Receiver. If you just want TV sound to the receiver then do not use the video(Yellow) cable just use the audio out terminals from the tv and connect to Input one on the receiver. you can do this with the cable box also but you have to use RCA type cables . If you want the full HD experience then a new up todate receiver is necessary.

Hooking up a sony playstation 3 with digital optical cable

Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.
