Re: my comqac presario blacks out when i open the lid
if you boot into bios and go to the alarms section and make sure that the alarms section is unchecked and if there is anything in there that says anything about the cover being removed clear that too than just save and exit and reboot

If it has no "ghost image" on the monitor, nothing, it could be a connection issue, a ribbon cable on the rear of the monitor, the inverter, a tiny switch the operates the on/off of the backlighting when the lid is opened or closed, sometimes located near the lid hinges. Have you tried a External Monitor? Take a look at this video, it may help troubleshoot the issue: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi6GNFcP3w
Does the laptop boot? Sound? Do you see a "ghost Image" in the monitor in a bright light? If so, Could be backlighting, Inverter, on/off switch that shuts the monitor on/off when you open and close the lid. Can you boot to safe mode with networking? If so, Open the Device Manager, Uninstall the Graphics Adapter, reboot, the software will apply a generic driver, If the Graphics adapter has not failed completely.
Base from the description of your problem , this seems to be a motherboard failure already. The blacking out of your screen before this problem started is a sign of something on the motherboard is already failing.
Now since the computer will just power ON and automatically shut itself down is definitely an implication of motherboard and processor failure it can be due to overheating problem, so if you want to continue using this laptop a motherboard replacement is needed, you can take replace it by yourself if you have any experience doing those kind of things but if not better take it to a repair shop or better yet do a upgrade and get a new laptop then.
Could be a loose cable connection the cable that runs between the LCD and the laptop my come loose from time to time and the screen will go black you have to be carful with this because you may be shorting out the inverter and eventuly you will have no picture it should be and eas fix if the cable is loose Go to the manue or service guide and find out how to open the Lcd cover behind the Lcd sceen there should be a connector make sure it is properly connected
sounds like you have a loose connection ....either into the screen or into the motherboard....the connection between board and screen runs through the hinge brackets and often comes loose after machine has been opened and closed a lot.....need to be comfortable opening up laptops to check the cables as it can be tricky to get to the back of the screen where the end of the ribbon cable is..
