Question about Frigidaire FTF2140F Front Load Washer

Is fading and shrinking my clothes

I bought the Frigidaire front load washer and gas dryer pair on Jan  1, 2009. They replaced a 30-year old agitator washer and old gas dryer. I've noticed my soft lambs wool sweater now feels rough like acrylic, jeans are faded, other cotton lounging pants have shrunk. I wash most everything in Perm Press and dryer set to Less Dry Medium temp. Sweaters go in delicate wash and rack dry. Anyone else have this problem? Am I washing and drying on the wrong settings?

How stupid I feel! I washed 2 loads of clothes yesterday and set the spin to low and the dryer temp. to low. My clothes came out fine. I guess using machines that actually work properly compared with old machines that barely worked has something to do with it! Thank you.

When washed in hot water, garments made of wool and cotton tend to shrink. The heat, water and agitation that meet the sweater in the washer/dryer ratchet the scales together and tighten up the contact between the fibers in the yarn. The combination of high heat and agitation by washing machine or tumble dryer will turn the wool fibers into a nearly solid fabric that will not ravel. Heat is not your friend if you're trying to avoid shrinking your clothes.

1. Wash with cold water
While using cold water will not prevent all shrinking, using cold water when is less damaging to fabric than hot water. Also most modern detergents can remove dirt as easily in cold water.

2. Choose the gentle (delicate) laundry cycle
Use the gentle cycle of the washer - the gentle (delicate) cycle uses cold water and mild agitation

3. Air dry your clothing
If possible air dry your clothes. This is the safest method.

Shrinking can easily and unintentionally happen. If your favorite sweater was accidentally put in the dryer and now it's even too small, don't worry, there is a solution, and it's fairly simple. All you need is some baby shampoo and some cork board. Restore it to its original size with this handy clothing hack - How To Unshrink Sweater In 5 Easy Steps Repair Aid London Ltd

Tell the dealer you want a different make!
IT'S EASIER TO KEEP CUSTOMERS THAN TO FINED NEW ONES!

We have been selling appliances for over 65 years!
And you will only see one GE appliance on my showroom floor!

Whirlpool or SPEED QUEEN! ARE THE BEST!

HERE IS MY STORY FOR YOU!

AFTER 6 YEARS AND THREE repairs.
I threw GE in the trash and bought a Speed Queen Commercial grade washer and, I AM 53 YEARS OLD AND THIS IS THE LAST WASHER I WILL EVER BUY!
tHEY ARE TESTED AT 8 loads a week for 25 years!!!!!!!

The washers and dryers today use so much less water, electricity, and detergent that they pay for them selves after a only a few years.
My advise is, it is cheaper to buy, run, and operate a new efficient machine! You will see you water and electric bill reduced!!!!!!!!!
Speed Queen commercial grade top loader uses only 34 gallon of water compared to the others at 48-54 gallons!

THE FRONT LOADER,

(GET THIS) ONLY 13.9 GALLONS of water and washes in 35 minutes and the clothes are cleaner and last longer cause it uses water agitation instead of a vain to wear out your clothes! How about spinning at 1000 RPM and the clothes come out so dry they are only in the dryer half the time than all the other machines! Thus half the gas or electric bill!!
All my employees have replaced their laundry pairs with Speed Queen!
My Guys call it the, "No brainier Machine!"

I hope you can utilize the good advice I so enjoy sharing with all the good people we talk to!

Mildew smell on clothes

I have the same machines. Try using an old towel and detergent solution( use rubber gloves) and thouroughly clean the door seal. It can be just full of old lint, dirt, etc. in the grooves. Also try some oxyclean in your next load. That will help get rid of the odor also. These washers stay warm quite a long time and clothing will mildew fast in warm weather, but you probably already know that.

Ok final Question

If this is a frigidaire, when the washer has a load in it, as the agitator agitates the tub should move about 1/8 of a turn. Meaning that for 8 agitations the tub should make 1 revolution. We call this indexing in the appliance repair world. If the tub is making 1 revolution in 4 agatations or 1 revolution in 1 agitation, the transmission is bad. This should have a 5 year warranty if purchased before 2006. You will also need a tub seal. Hope this helps
