We've got a hearing impaired individual in our household and have stumbled upon a problem we'd like your imput on, please.
We've had our 57" Sony HDTV for more than 3 years now. The closed captioning always worked. When we got the HDTV, we went to the "setup" menu, chose the "CC1" caption, muted the audio and on came the CC1. It has now ceased to work with the addition of the "811" HD receiver.
We do have the HDTV hooked up to a 5.1 sound system, but that should not interfere with the closed captioning, should it?
Regardless whether I use the origional Sony remote or the Dish Network, we can't seem to restore the captioning.
-   I need to turn on the closed captioning for my grnadfather. My tv remote for verizon fios has a cc button but it dosn't work-   llbb

Hi Jim!
Many, many thaks for your help! I went through the "owners manual" for the 811 and there isn't a mention of the captioning in the index. I would've had to call CS otherwise.
Glad that you were here to help us!

First of all - I too am a HOH person who uses CC. Digital HD transmissions do not function with CC1.
There should be a selection for digital closed captioning in your TV. As there is with my 42" Sony.
With that said, I'm thinking that the 811 setup has a closed captioning option also. Main Menu option 6 I think is SETUP, then option 9 is Closed Captioning, then 6 gets you to the Digital/Analog settings.
I'm a little confused cause I get HDTV OTA and use Satellite for all others. However, CC works on all configurations.

Since we upgraded our cable tv service to HD/Digital the closed caption button will not work on our TV. When you go into the TV menu and then to settings the closed caption option cannot be accessed. We use this option a lot and hate to lose it.

Bought a new DYNEX TV. Upgraded my comcast to DVR and High Definition. Now, the closed captioned button on my TV remote, will not work. I must go thur the comcast cable box to turn it off or on. I have friends with other brands of TV and same comcast setup and their c.c. works thru their TV remote. I must turn off the power to the cable box, then press menu, then enable or disable the close captions. A lot of trouble each time I want to turn c.c. on or off. why does DYNEX TV remote not turn the c.c. on or off, when using comcast?
