Constant drop VOIP connections , using motorola sbg900

Having packet8 voip problems, every conversation I was having got dropped within 5 mins.

How to troubleshoot dropped calls


I know nearly nothing about your situation, but I've encountered similar problems before so I'll just tell you what I've generally found to be the culprit in such a scenario.

VoIP (especially the multi-user variant) suffers greatly from network congestion. If your network is operating sub-optimally, this may be the reason you are experiencing call drops. Again, I don't know anything about your network's structure, but some gateways have a QoS setting that you can toggle to prioritize VoIP traffic, so this may be an option to consider as it is a very easy change to make.

You may also want to check your firewall rules, as sometimes a firewall not properly configured for VoIP will drop subsequent datagrams if one related to the initial one hasn't been sent within the (usually quite small) timeout period. Especially on a complex network with sketchy routing, increasing this timeout value may yield the results you are looking for.

There's also the possibility that the problem isn't on your end. The same issues I've described above can occur on any network, so the person on the other end may be initiating the call drop instead.

Fax machine does not receive FAX


The problem is that the codecs used by VoIP IADs are designed to compress voice, not the analog signals sent and received by modems.
In a VoIP Internet world, voice is first converted into packets and then they are sent over the connections that make up our our vast Internet. They may take slightly different times to arrive at their destination. In doing so some packets may be discarded, but the end result is that the receiving VoIP device has enough packets to make a clear and understandable conversation.
We suggest these settings on a fax machine for faxing over VoIP; slowing the transmission rate down and allowing the machine to continue receiving the transmission even though a few bits of data were lost, then faxing over VoIP can become more consistent. Our suggestions in many cases can resolve issues that prevent faxing over a VoIP connection, but not in all cases. If after trying and making all the VoIP fax changes we suggest you still cannot fax over your connection then try a Internet Fax service.

Hello, I have x-lite on my computer, i can make VOIP cal for a limited time only, then I loose the DSL connection, and the dlink modem require restart (internet status went off). any support please


Does this problem (internet status off) happen even when you are not using x-lite?

It's very unlikely that it's the software disturbing the connection. I suspect your VoIP calls are interrupted because the connection is dropping, and not the contrary.

Lose Connections over and over...


You may need to set specific ports on your router to use the voip. log onto router and go to the applications and gaming tab to set the specific ports voip needs to access Internet.

Call drop out after 5mins 30 secs


Hi Youradickhead, I have experienced similar problems previously with Telstra and it was not due to the D-link as far as could verify. It seemed to me that Telstra was able to detect that you were using your internet connection for phone conversations and drop your line. Alternatively it may have to do with the filters that they provide. Try it without the filter, i.e. connect your modem cable straight into the socket (cable port).

Can't connect to the internet wirelessly


Well, to avoid confusion, I'd start by doing a factory reset. Insert the straightened end of a paperclip into the reset hole and power up the device to do this. From there, the device should begin broadcasting the default wireless network with the name (SSID) of "Motorola." The DHCP server should also be enabled and if your computer is configured to receive an automatically assigned IP address your wireless network interface should pick up an IP. The security for the "Motorola" network is disabled by default.

Basic troubleshooting from there would be to try to see if you can connect your wireless computer to another wireless network that is know to be working well. Either buy and return another wireless access point or router from a retailer or head to a Starbucks or other establishment that offers free wireless. If the wireless computer is hooking up nicely with the secondary wireless network, you can refocus on the SBG900 as the likely source of the problem.

If after attempting the aforementioned procedures you find that the wireless computer continues to fail to connect to the SBG900 you might have to consider that you have a faulty device. At that point I would consider consulting the manufacturer's documentation.

VOIP will no ring


Just "VOIP Phone" is not enough information to help you. There are many hundreds of different phones, connections, & setups you could have. What type of phone (make, model number)? Is this a VOIP phone connected through a home network, cable modem etc.. for home use? Is it a single line phone connected to a VOIP box connected to your cable modem? Is it a VOIP phone system connected to regular copper phone lines? Are you using a VOIP phone at home connected to a VOIP phone system at work?
