Question about Acer AL1914B Black 19 in LCD Monitor

1 Answer

Acer AL1914 black screen, green light

When I turn on my computer I can see the normal boot screen for a few seconds then it turns black with the green light still on. After that I can see the windows logo with the loading bar, and again it turns black with the green light still on. Then it finally goes to the log in or "welcome" screen, but it goes black with the green light still on before I get a chance to log in.

I tried using a different monitor (Acer AL 1717) and it worked just fine. I never had any problems with my 1914 prior to starting my computer with the system restore disk. Is there any possible way to fix my monitor without getting it serviced?

You may be right gymowner but I can not figure out how to install the driver. I downloaded it from the Acer website but I can not figure out what to do with the .zip contents (.icm and a .inf extensions)

It sounds like a deleted driver? try getting the driver for the monitor, did you loose the Operating system at some point, if so try a system restore to a date when the computer was working properlly prior to the malfunction. It sounds like it restored you to a time before the driver for that monitor was installed.

Check power supply section for bad caps first.
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply, blown fuses, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed ACER monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Check the color settings in the on-screen menu. You can choose between "Warm", "Cool" and "User". Maybe you used the "Warm" setting before and somehow it got changed to "Cool".
If this is not the case, you can try the "User" mode and reduce the intensity of the blue channel.
If even black areas show a blue tint, maybe running an auto configuration from the menu helps.
As a last resort, use the "Reset" menu item which resets all settings to factory defaults.

mccampbell71 Probably a failure of inverter circuit(dc to ac 600-1100vac) to light-up (sustain) "cold-cathode-fluorescent lamps" causing the "switch-mode-power-supply" to go into full or partial SHUTDOWN mode. Black Screen of Death strikes again!!! The Question I have is why did you BUY a "black-brick" supply? Did the other one fall out of the car or get run over by a train? Only you will be able to make the decision of to REPAIR or Trade-in for new. You are no different than 5000 others worldwide (all brands) who have monitor's with BSOD! Yes, some (75-90%) can be saved to work 1-3 more years! Read some of my other responses in my profiles (12fixlouie aka louie12fix) to learn of the options you have open to you. Bye for now 12fixlouie If this info was of some use please rate on fixya.

Monitor Acer Al 1914, no signal

Check your connections to the PC. Make sure that they are nice and secure. If there is a resolution problem setting it should display the boot process and then go blank after starting the operating system.

The power supply has probbably blown. Not repairable by unskilled labour unless you would like to check the fuse which is a little round black item near the area where you plug the unit into mains. be careful when removing the back cover. first the screws then it unclipps from the grey front frame. do not put pressure on the screen itself. It may damage. Good luck, Kind Regards Justin (Justronics S.A.)
