You myust understand the difference between a digital tuner and a tuner that tunes digital signals. Given the age of your set, the tuner is in fact digital (tunes using numbers not a dial) and tunes NTSC analog broadcast signals. The changeover to "digital" is in reference to the broadcast signals which will now be ATSC or digital format. Your tuner WILL NOT tune to these signals. If you have cable or satellite, you will not be effected as those signals will be received by your tuner. The changeover only affects ovfer air reception (rabbit ears or antennas).

Hope this helps,
Dan

I was just given a 36-inch RCA Gemstar Guideplus Gold TV. I do not have cable and am unable to tell if it is digital or not. I've been told it is less than 6 years old. It is a tube TV.

RCA made only two 36" televisions between 2004 - 2010 and neither one of them have digital (ATSC) tuners. They made ZERO CRT televisions before that with digital tuners.

Is the sony trinitron 23 inch tv hd ready

You will need a model number before anyone can even do any research.
In general, there were never many CRT (picture tube) TVs made with the required ATSC tuner and if your set is 5+ years old, it isn't compatible with digital reception.

Can not get pip to work

Pip has its own tuner, try getting a cable splitter to split the signal into the tv. If you have digital cable you may need a second cable box to do this. If your cable provider still sends an analog signal the splitter will work.

HATACHI IS OUT OF FOCUS

This can be a number for things. Believe it or not dust or cig smoke in LCD and pix tube projected TVs turns up looking a lot like focus error. Is the focus bad or do you have a convergence error (red, blue or green shading) Is there any smearing or blooming to the pix? The other comment for you is the TV is 9 years old I personally consider this very close to the life of the product. A simple good pix would tell volumns for someone like me (may need some resolution on the pix).

This can be soldered back into the tuner if the board in the tuner is not broken. If you need a new connector any electronics supply store will carry it.
