Panasonic error code F61 is for an output /power problem. Most likely it will need the output ic replaced. But check that the fan(s) are running a bad or stopped fan will also cause F61. Replacing the IC is best left to a technician and Panasonic is the only supplier that I know has the part.

Hi there.. I have a Technics Sa EH 550 hi fi system which keeps turning itself off when the system is turned on.. Also shows F61 on the screen..any ideas??

F61 usually means the amp has detected a short or a severe microprocessor error.

Generally speaking, an amp attempts to protect itself from heat, shorts, overloads and operator exuberance by refusing to turn on or stay on.

Overloads can be from excessive periods of high output or marginally low impedance loading by the speakers; and shorts would be wiring issues or a speaker blowing up.

You should be able to feel if it's hot. WHY is it overheating? Make sure it has sufficient ventilation on all sides and that vent holes are not blocked by dust balls. Ensure the fan (if equipped) is running as designed (some only operate on demand). Clean dust and debris from it.

If the amp comes back on after cooling, you're lucky. They only have so many self-protection cycles in their lives so continuously resetting or cycling their power without addressing the cause can do more harm than good.

If it protects immediately on a cool power up you should disconnect the speaker connections and try it 'naked'. If it comes up then diagnose which lead(s) are shorted. If it does not come up the problem is internal and should be left to an experienced and competent hands-on tech.

I HAVE A PANASONIC CD STEREO SYSTEM AND THE DISPLAY SHOW: F61; WHATS THE MEANING???

F61 is an error code.
It will automatically shuts down your unit.
This is very common on your unit.

Try to checked if the fan is working or not.
I have repaired some unit before, this is the caused why f61 appeared.
The symptom is shutting down the unit after a few minute.
If the fan is not working it will shuts off automatically to avoid further damaged to your output I.C. from overheating.

If confirmed that the fan is working then I've suspect that your output I.C. is shorted.
This is quit technical and need to send to repair shop to isolate the faulty parts.
The output IC of your unit is RSN series and quite expensive.

Pls rate my help.

Thaks for using fixya...

I have Panasonic SC-AK750 Mini System and of late it keeps showing F61 on the screen before it switches off. do you know what it is

The F61 indicates protect mode. This means that a problem was detected inside and the unit shuts down to prevent further damage. This is usually the output amp pac or the regulator IC. The amp is attached to the heat sink in the rear of hte unit and should be marked RSNxxx.

Panasonic sa-ht995 will not work ...... when turned on it says hello.......then f61 then turns off again how do i fix this problem?

F61 in the user manual says , check your speaker connections if ok then see your dealer, the reason f61 comes up is a amplifier fault , most likely a blown audio amplifier ic is faulty, and needs replaceing by a compenent electronic technician.

My Technics DV-170 shows F61 Error when i try and turn it on?

That is a protection indication. This means that the output amplifier section has a problem that was detected and a shutdown occurred to prevent further damage. I don't have a listing for your model, so I can't provide you with too many details, but look for a large black IC attached to a heatsink. That should be the output amp pac. If there is not one, there should be 4 3-legged parts (transistors) and one or more of those may have failed. I have also seen cases where a voltage regulator that supplies the driver circuits has had bad connections thereby shutting down the driver circuit.

Keep us posted.

F61 shows on front of panasonice surround sound unit when powered. It then powers off in a couple of seconds.

First thing to try and do is check that the fan is blowing and clean that out. Check your power plugs connection take it out and reinsert it to make sure it has a snug fit. If none of that helps it could be a more serious problem like a bad/dry solder joint.
Hope this helps keep me updated,

I have a panasonic cd stereo system SA-AK640 that will not operate properly and is showing the error code F61

This is an indication that the output amp pac(s) have a problem. Expect a parts cost in the range of $25-$45. Add in the local labor rate for the full repair cost.
