Question about Miller RENEGADE 180 WELDER GENERATOR MIG 907395

Spool wire starts to melt while on the spool

I have a Miller MIG 90 I believe, purchased in the early 1990's, it is the model that was replaced by the Model 135.
I was welding one day, and wire stopped coming out. So I popped the hatch and found the wire had broken (or melted) before going into the liner. I did smell something hot, but I was welding, so of course things were hot. I set up the machine again and pulled the trigger. Once again the wire wouldn't come out. So I quickly popped the hatch and saw that the wire and several windings on the spool were glowing. It actually melted the plastic guide leading to the liner.
Any help is appreciated!

1] Switch off the mains power, remove the torch from the machine, ther should be a button or switch on the unit to feed the wire, push or switch these and observe that the wire feeds and dose not heat up, if ok then you have a short in the torch, a new torch assembly is required,if the wire heats up with the torch removed, the wire spool is shorting out, remove the spool and check wiring in and around the feed motor, if you can't see anything check for a voltage from a good earth and on the rollers, if you have a voltage then the motor is faulty.(earthing out) a P.A.T test should show exactly where this is.

My welder won't feed wire it sounds like it's trying to energize but can't. A couple of times it fed through but wouldn't feed to weld so I had stick weld. What happens if the liner has a restriction?

first unscrew the tiny tip at very end of torch (can be hot)!! then try to feed wire thru handle, gently shake cable as you do helps to feed wire thru cable , if successful you have allowed the amps to get too high for the feed rate (slow) and melted the tip closed , these tips are replaceable from miller and are not expensive

Why wont the wire come through my cosmo gas gasless welder

Most mig welders have reversible feed spools. There is a good chance you have the spool in the .030 wire side. Remove the spool retaining clip and flip the spool to .023 wire for example. I don't know what size wire you are using. Also there is an adjustment for the drive spool. Tighten the tensioner spring thumb screw to increase the feed tension.

Millermatic 140 w/ auto set powers on but will not feed wire or arc

If its a new unit its probably nothing. Miller makes good stuff. Open the side so you can see the spool. With the machine on, press the trigger for a second. Did the little wheel spin (trying to feed the wire) if it did then your problem could be kinked wire, **** on tip, or spring on small spool is loose and wire is slipping. Let me know.
