Replacement 15A circuit breaker does not work

When the replacement breaker (that lights the kitchen) is flipped on, the kitchen light flickers but does not stay on.

Thanks for the quick response. Let me be more specific.

When the breaker is flipped, the kitchen light does flicker, however, none of the electricity that is provided by that breaker works.

The outlets do not provide electricity. None of lights are working.

    Thanks

If the light is a flouresent light more than likely the ballast is bad. Very simple to replace but make sure power is of..Very common problem.

I the breaker is new try checking to make sure it is secure in the box. If you have a voltmeter you need to check to see if you have power at the breaker between the line and ground. If there is power then you have a open wire between the breaker and the source which is the outlets and lights. Check the first things first. Hope this helps you find problemotherwise you may need to get an electrician out.

Do you have anything plugged in? If they keep tripping with nothing plugged in I would call a electrician to troubleshoot or replace the breakers. They may still be under warranty from Siemans.

How many lights or ceiling fans can I hook up to one 15a single pole circuit breaker.

First of all, are there any other appliances or lights on this circuit? If so, they must be included in the total wattage for the circuit. The fan units are either listed with the Amp rating or wattage rating (Volt Amp) VA. The total amperage allowed on a 15 A circuit is 12A.(80% of the total per NEC). The total wattage would be 1380 watts. ( 115 Volt single phase X 15A = 1725 watts, 1725 x 80% = 1380 watts)

I need a 15A GFI circuit breaker that fits into a Square D Homeline Load Center - it is not available locally - what other manufacturer's 15A GFI circuit breaker fits into a Square D Homeline Load Center?

That number in the heading is not correct. While you might find a breaker that "fits" your panel there is no other brand that is listed to work with your panel The correct number would be

HOM115GFICP If you can't find it locally, there are many locations you can order one from online. I don't know where you are locatged, but an electrical supply house or even homedepot should have one.

I have a residential panel with all Challenger circuit breakers with the exception of a single GE breaker. Challengers say Type C115 and GE says 15A. Can you tell me if these are compatible?

You should only use breakers listed for the panel you have Look on the inside cover of the panel and see what breaker numbers are listed. Many breakers will fit, but are not listed. They are both 15A, but you didn't indicate what brand of panel they are installed in. Most likely, the GE breaker was added,

The socket next to my washer was used to put in an extension cord to fix my deck with a power saw. The socket is still out, but the breaker works for then lights there.

Usually the washer circuit is a seperate 20A circuit. The lights would be on a different circuit usually 15A. Check your panel and see if there is a 20 breaker tripped. Hopefully your panel is labeled (or it should be) Are you saying this tripped while using the extension cord? Another possibility is that it is controlled by a GFCI outlet. You can connect additional receptacles to a GFCI outlet to protect them. Check to see if you have a GFCI receptacle tripped (in garage, bathrrom etc)

Circuit breaker only half working - reddish flag?

A red indicator means a circuit overload has tripped the breaker. You mentioned a heater? Does the circuit tripping coincide with the heater running? There may be too much load on that circuit.
Contact the original electrician to see if he will come check it out ( licensed, reputable electrician should have no problem with this). If he gives you the run around, find another. Was any aluminum wiring found in the home inspection?

First switch off the power at the main breaker or pull the meter from the meter socket. If you flip off the main breaker and it is mounted in the same breaker panel, just be aware that the wires above the breaker are still hot. Connect the white wire to the neutral bar, the green wire to the ground bar, and the black wire to the breaker. Then tilt the breaker to get the front black lug under the bar and push the back of the breaker onto the lug on the bus bar.

Upsizing breakers

In short - NO. 15 amp circuits are intended for lighting and outlets and usually have 14 gauge wiring. A 20 amp circuit is usually wired with heavier 12 gauge wire which can carry the increased amps. If you plug in a 20 amp breaker into a 15 amp circuit you run the risk of overheating the smaller gauge wire and starting a fire.

To test a circuit breaker you should set the multimeter to "Volts AC" and touch the prongs to the breaker's terminal screw and a ground. If there is no power, the breaker is faulty and requires replacement.
