Most HP and Compaq computers come with
full versions of Microsoft Windows preinstalled. Microsoft has an
extensive library of software, drivers, and updates available for free
download. HP and many of its partners work with Microsoft to provide
drivers through Windows Update. Use the following steps to download
drivers, software, and updates by using Windows Update:
Follow the directions in the Windows Update page to set up Windows Update and install the software updates.
Be aware of the following tips when using Windows Updates:
Install all critical updates first to help keep your Internet connection secure.
If you are looking for drivers, they can be found as optional updates from the list of available updates.
to file sizes, number of updates, and download time, use Windows Update
when the computer is not being used for other activities.
more detailed information about using Windows Update to install drivers
and get updates for Windows software, see the HP Support document Updating Drivers and Software with Windows Update
great way to quickly get updated drivers from Microsoft is to open
Device Manager, right-click the name of the device, and select Update Driver Software
Updating a driver from Device Manager
Its probably a bluetooth device as it says. So install its drivers if not recognized automaticaly 1. If it is an external dongle try to install the drivers from a CD that came with it. 2. If not (an internal device usually on laptops) drivers for it are on the motherboard CD, so browse the CD looking for a folder named Bluetooth, or something associated and install them. After installing will be asked to reset your computer so do it as asked. After that the installed device will copy and execute some files and will start working
First you have to find out if your PC has Bluetooth already installed. If you haven't checked, go to your Device Manager (Right-click "My Computer" -> Manage -> Device Manager) and see of there are any Bluetooth entries. If there are, you go to Control Panel and choose "Bluetooth Devices". This will start a wizzard which leads you through the process.
If not, you will have to buy a USB bluetooth adapter. They are fairly cheap (5-10$) and you can get them at any retailer (Newegg, Tigerdirect, Meritline, etc). If you are very impatient, you can grab one at your local Staples or Office Depot.
Important: do NOT plug in the adapter, until the installation software asks you to do it. This is crucial, because otherwise Windows will install it's own driver and it is a pain in the b**t to fix that.
If you go to compaq's site, they don't have any drivers for the sound & video for your laptop[ that go into xp, but they do show the drivers for vista. you could try these one by one to see if they work (sometimes they do) and if they won't, at least you have a list of the hardware that is in your computer, and you can look at the manufacturers site for each of these and you should be able to get drivers for xp from them.
check dell website (I also had that problem) and if in your computer support page doesn't appear a parch, check in laptop, inspiron 9400. There is a patch for wireless 355 bluetooth. (It seems like a bug in the device)
