I wauld like to make the lettering larger and add this to my toolbar. The lettering is so small i am getting eye strain!!!

If you mean you want to see the text in your internet browser larger, then in Internet Explorer explorer left-click 'View' (in toolbar next to 'Edit') and then slide down to text size and select larger or largest. In Firefox, select Tools, then Options, then Conten (third tab on top), then change the font size by selecting a larger number from the drop-down menu that currently should be shoung a number across from the font type (like Times New Roman). Sorry I can't increase the size of this text for you to read this solution.

P.S. Both I.E and Firefox have zoom functions under 'View' to temporarily zoom in or out on text and images.

On some sites where a password or a payment amout is required, the box is too small and dashes enter instead of numbers

Are you using the numbers keypad on your keyboard, but you have not set NUM LOCK on? You get no characters or odd characters when you type this way.
Passwords usually do not display the actual characters in order to avoid prying eyes from learning what your password is. This is normal.
If you have trouble seeing very small text, and if you're using Vista, try the Accessibility Options or Ease of Access from the Control Panel. These allow you to selectively enlarge a certain area of the screen, or you may wish to change the resolution of your monitor in order to see less of a desktop, but larger text and icons. Try Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Adjust Screen Resolution.
If you would like to keep your high resolution but still have trouble reading small text, try the Control Panel->Appearance and Personalization->Personalization and change the font size from 96 to 120 DPI (dots per inch).
Good luck!
