Lost storage capacity

I deleted video files from my flip mino by emptying the 100Video file on an iMac. I just dragged the .avi files to the trash. Both the camera and the software say there are no videos on the camera. But I now have only 31 seconds recording time.

I had the same exact problem... then someone told me the fix... you have to "empty trash" on your computer (when the camcorder is plugged into your USB) - this will "empty" the trash on your computer, but also empty on your flip too...

I guess what happens when you delete all files from the "100 Video" file is that your camcorder moves all files into its own "trash" (on the device) - so the camera "shows" that there are no videos, but in reality, they are still on the flash memory on the device..

hope this makes sense and works for you.

Was having issues with lost time on my camera also. Only had 29 minutes left.

I just did the quick format on the Flip Camera from My Computer after upgrading the software from the site (which it does automatically when you plug it in). Took under 30 seconds and now I have the entire 60 minutes back.

You must use the same computer to do this. I tried it on the laptop first and it didn't work. After reading this help chat, I remembered I had edited and deleted video on the desktop the last time I used the camera. It worked when I used that computer.

    Thanks for your help!

For Windows users who weren't successful with the "Empty Trash" solution and don't want to re-format the Flip memory, this is how I solved the problem of lost record time after two incidents of video file corruption (Flip Mino HD connected to PC with Windows XP):
I made a Windows standard disk check (no special tool) after which Windows had created a hidden folder named"FOUND.000" which contained a file with all the lost clusters of the corrupted videos (to see this folder you have to change your file explorer options to see all files/folders including protected system files). The file had just the size which I had been missing. I deleted the "FOUND.000" folder on the camcorder and now the it shows the full 60 minutes record time again.

One caveat: the Flip has to be plugged in to the SAME computer that you deleted the video on. I run a computer lab, and it took me awhile to realize that I had deleted the video from the Flip on a different computer?once I found the correct computer, this solution worked.

Make sure that when you delete them on a mac, that while it is still plugged in you empty the trash, if you delete but do not empty the trash, when you remove it from the computer the used space will remain

We have some videos we want to transfer to the computer. We are running Mac OSX with the Leopard software. When I attach the camera, I see the point and shoot icon for a short time and then I hear a beep...

Put the batteries in the camera, then connect via the USB flip connection. The camera will show up on the desktop like a flash drive does. Open it when it shows up. Drill until you find the avi movies and drag them to your desktop. You may have to convert them to quicktime files. If you cannot use the software that came with the camera (it does work), you can import the sections into iMovie.

Lost time/inaccessible files on flip

This may sound risky, but I did this and my Camera is working perfectly again... If you don't have any videos on it you need to salvage too badly this should do the trick.

1) Plug it in (obviously)
2) Go to My Computer and right click your video camera
3) Click Format
4) I clicked restore device defaults because it sounded safe (but may not be necessary)
5) Click start and begin the reformatting

After this i went from my incorrect 27:11 min. remaining on the camera to the full 60. Still records perfectly and the software is still on it and works correctly. Hope it helps some of you out there =)
