Question about Zenith B25A02Z TV

1 Answer

TV comes on then shuts off in about 20 seconds

Something must be heating up and then it shuts off with a POP that comes through the speakers. What is the most likely component that would cause that? Zenith SM3247RK8 built in 1994. Sound works fine.

After further diagnosis, with the TV on channel 03 and the digital converter box on and on a working channel I can get sound but the screen stays black for the 20 seconds then the whole TV shuts off with a loud POP through the speakers. It makes no difference what level the sound is set on , the POP remains at the same loud level. There are no visible indications of overheating on the circuit boards or any of the components. Can't say for certain being a layman and the only reference I have is a little prior experience with a similar problem. So use this advice at your own risk. hold down your menu button, if set still goes off turn on again! press menu go to antennae not cable if it stays on at this point exit out of the menu then press and hold again and when it goes to display the channel your on press the adjust and channel up buttons at same time to get to the factory set-up screen once there use the select button to scroll through its lists until you find something like AFC automatic frequency control and set that to 7 by using the select button should you see AC while scrolling check if its on 1 or 0 it should be on 1 this may also aide you in solving the problem should this not help just unplug your set for 4 hours and plug back up that should hard reset the set.

Unit just shuts down, wait a bit, then works again, repeat process.

These units come with a Thermal Overload Protection device. It is not a timer, but when the temp. gets higher than normal, it shuts down to prevent damage to the motor. If the brush is dragging (full force) on the floor it will slow down the operation and heat up the motor. If the shaft has collected twine, rope, string, etc. it can slow down also. Clean the underside after each use.

Philips tv with sound going in and out

Try bypassing the set's speaker by running an external audio amp. I use my bookcase stereo for audio direct from the satellite receiver and turn the volume off on the TV. Sounds better this way! Could be the audio amp in the TV is going bad or the speaker may be bad and the TV's audio amp goes through a shut down cycle.

Alesis RA-100 amp is tinny

To test speakers get a 1.5 volt battery and put the (-)wire of the speaker to the negative end of the battery. Then take the + wire and for a split second touch the positive terminal of the battery. You should hear the speaker pop! Listen to each unit inside the speaker, any that don't pop are not working.
If you look inside the amp you may see that something has burnt up. Look carefully at whatever is on the heat sink.

The TV shut off, made a popping sound. The

Power board short and bad capacitor blown, capacitors usually pop because of shorted or open rectifiers and linear devices that warp inside. This happens due to excessive heat exposure from the current draw. Bad diodes and FET's are usually the root cause as to why capacitors bulge then eventually pop. This means the the x-y sustain boards are not getting their supply voltage resulting a no picture....

The red light flashes an error code for a technician to read, the tv is in protection mode to prevent further damage. Get it serviced at your local repair center or take it back if its under warranty.....

Projection TV keeps shutting down

Good Day;

Sounds like you have a bad green picture tube that has failed. To check this out; remove front speaker grill, remove small panel, you will see three CRT's (pictue tubes) sticking down, remove the little board on the middle tube then restore power. If TV stays on more then likely the CRT is bad but not always the driver on board could also be bad, check voltages.

Good Luck, big IRISH.

TV WILL NOT COME ON

Your tv is probably going into a "protection mode" this means something inside the set had failed. This is the tv's way of shutting down before more damage can occur. This could mean many different things that could have gone wrong with this unit. Your best bet is to call your local dealer and have them come out and look at it for you. Tearing apart tv's is very dangerous! Some sets have up to 30,000 volts on the anode! GOOD LUCK!

TV doesn't turn on

When the set is turned on, the computer senses that something is wrong and immediately shuts the set back off. The standby LED will then blink a code, a certain number of blinks, to indicate exactly why the set was shut down. It is possible that your audio output IC is shorted, as this would make a pop or strange noises in the speaker just before the set shuts down, which it does to protect your speakers from burning up. The set should be looked at by a qualified tech familiar with Sony TV's.
