Take off oven door from ge profile convection stove

I broke the exterior door glass and need to take the oven door off to take it in to replace glass

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

If you look down at the hinge arms, there should be a hole in each arm. Put a nail in each arm, then lift the door up so the nail rests against the door frame and locks the hinge arm from closing all the way.
Once the nails rest, the door can then be lifted off.

Let me know if this works for you, or if not (does for 90% of the ovens manufactured in the US.). If not, I will investigate further.

By all means, DO NOT REMOVE THE NAILS until the door is reinstalled.

My ge profile advantium microwave and convection oven started heating by it self. we were home and smelled smoke. it had melted the food cover to the glass turntable plate. We unplugged it and later...

That I can't answer! But I would replace your microwave/convection oven, it is completely unsafe and a major fire hazard, and I would get in touch with GE and lodge a formal complaint about their product, if there is a flaw in the design it needs to be brought to the table to warn others that have same item so they are not affected in the same way.

Replacing outer glass of oven door

This is glass because glass does not burn, does not melt at oven temperatures, and is a pretty good insulator. Also allows the cook to watch the cake rise.

I would not replace with anything but factor glass. Too dangerous, even regular glass is not properly treated to be safe in this environment.

The cash for clunkers gets extended to appliances soon, perhaps this makes a new one more affordable?

Our handle broke off our GE Profile Spacemaker Oven

You can easily perform this repair on your own and save the cost of labor charges and a service fee. Go to appliancepartspros.com and type in the model number you provided. The door handle is located under Section 1 as item number 1801. Make sure you order the correct color.

To access the door handle mounting screws, you have to remove the inner door panel that goes around the perimeter of the glass. You can use a small screwdriver to simply pry the plastic up and work your way gradually around the perimiter of the glass. Most microwave ovens have grooves in the panel that you can insert the screwdriver into. Use care not to pry against the glass. The glass is tempered and also has an RF shield that prevents harmful microwaves from potentially harming the consumer. If you break the glass, you will need to purchase a new door.

The door handle screws are located behind the inner panel. Simply remove the broken handle and install the new one. Re-insert the inner door panel carefully and gradually work your way around the perimeter of the door glass and make sure it snaps back into place.

If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
