Windows Vista - No internet-no backup

Never had this problem before with this Toshiba Windows Vista laptop, until recently nothing has changed other than I recently purchased an updated 2009 version of the anti norton virus software, which is running as it would normally, no problem.

My partner and I both run off the same router via WI-FI. His works fine, we have the same anti norton software for two users.

The other day, the internet wouldn't work, I clicked on diagnose the problem, said the network was fine. His internet connection was working fine. Id never set up backup and my partner said I should have done this when I first got the laptop. So he restored a back up for me within the laptop. Then, the internet worked. However, the same thing happened the next night, no internet again!!! But when I try to run back up, it says, failed. So I still have no internet, no diagnoses, connection is still fine.

Any ideas why this would happen? All other functions are working perfectly.

Help!! :)

Sometimes after you install Norton antivirus products, most notably Norton System works, the firewall included with the antivirus will block the internet from working properly. Right click on your Norton Icon on the right side of your task bar & turn norton off. Try your internet again. You may have to close & re-open Internet explorer after you shut off your norton. The other thing is you could remove your firewall entirely, as your router should have a firewall in it, and if you are using win xp, it also has a firewall. This kind of configuration sometimes causes some rather unusual effects.

How to allow ping request through Norton Internet Security 2010 Smart Firewall

When Norton Internet Security is installed it will take over control of the Windows Firewall. So if you need to make changes to the computers firewall you will need to make the changes in Smart Firewall.

Below is the steps that you will need to go through to allow incoming echo Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) traffic through the Smart Firewall.

Note these are the Windows Vista and Windows 7 steps. If you have Windows XP the begining steps may be different but the final options you are looking for should be the same.

1. Click Start - Programs - Norton Internet Security - Norton Internet Security

2. Click on the "Settings" link in the Network section

3. Scroll down until you see the "Smart Firewall" section

4. Click on the "Configure" link for the Program Control option

5. Scroll down until you see the "TCP/IP Ping Command" option and click on the drop down to change it to "Allow".

6. Apply, then OK

At this point you should be able to ping this computer from another computer in the network. If you still have trouble you may want to check your other network settings and make sure you do not have any other programs that could be blocking ping requests to the computer.

This issue needs to go back to Newtech. They can guide you through the issue. Is the external drive LARGE enough? Windows backup takes huge amounts of room. I suggest Handy Backup Pro, it can pull backup across networks, and push the data to drives and ONLINE locations.

Hi,

is there a problem with installation or the data reading?

If its installation problem, you can try installing it in compatibility mode for windows xp sp2 (right click the setup executable and you'll find a property page for compatibility mode)

Hope this helps.

Thanks.

PC Backup doesn't work with Windows Vista

You must check the package to ensure that the program is windows vista compatable. Please do note that Vista does have its own back software embedded. Simply type into the start search bar on the start menu backup and recovery.
