Hello, Friends You have Intel i845-ITE8712 chipset with 1.7GHz cpu. I will just upgrad the SDRAM from 256 MB to 1GB (two 512MB 133MHz DIMM
SDRAM). You can install 2.4/2.6 400 MHz You will gate more performance. Or can install 2.8 400 celeron
DVD Writers dont work as they grow old.
Sadly the Lense has stopped reading the Disk.
Try a few fresh DVD/CDs .
Still if u get the same message.
Dispose it off or get it repaired ( No guarantees that it will work)

try changing the settings in BIOS to high-speed USB speed support. Also physically clean the port of all dust(it happened to me and after washing it pure alcohol, the usb port started working)....sodeep
As you said you have formatted Drive C:, and installed XP SP3 and back again XP SP2.
Why don't you try formating the whole drive and reinstalling fresh Win XP SP2 and always choose NTFS partition only because all the features are supported in this partition.
First of all disconnect the Hard Disk do a check of switching on your comp and leaving it in on condition till you switch it off , repeat this exercise to ensure that there are no hardware problems . If your checks yield positive results then all you have to do is clean your hard disk thoroughly of any prevoius installations using the hard disk prep tools which you can download or obtain from vendor and then reinstall the OS .
Check on Ebay for a board, they have both new and used boards that will take that chip. Do a search for pentium 4 motherboard. As far as drivers being unavailable, your zip drive has native support in windows xp. It will recognize it and install drivers automatically. If you have a copy of windows ME then you can buy a bare bones system with no operating system and load it up yourself. You could probably even connect your existing hard drive and not lose any information. You would just need to due a repair with your Win ME disk. Hope this helps.
