Question about Samsung SP50L7H 50" HDTV-Ready Television
When turning on tv it cycles as normal but the ''smiley face'' does not come on, so it tries again, does this about three times. Then the warning triangle appears with the lamp symbol, the manual says this could mean the lamp needs replacing or ''another component.''
It is the fact that it could also be an other component that is worrying me. The bulb was replaced a year ago, the original bulb had lasted three years! Have taken the bulb out and there is no obvious signs that it has gone, the original bulb went with a load bang and broke into pieces!
Any help would be appreciated.
You most likely have a bad lamp ballast or possibly a bad power supply. When the lamps fail they can draw quite a bit of current and damage the ballast. High pitched sound indicates a short somewhere, more than likely the ballast, which puts too large a draw on the power supply, which is a switch mode unit, causing it to slow down the oscillations to a level which you can hear. I would recommend a new ballast. You can get it for $70 US at http://www.encompass.com and the part number is BP47-00027A. I have a tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r4977572-when_change_ballast_in_dlp_tv which will walk you through the installation process.
