also what you can do is go to the ipconfig and type in ipconfig/renew and wait for a little while and see if this will reset your ip address than justping a site like google.com or cnn.com

SOURCE: cannot connect to open wireless network Invalid IP Address

Either the network requires you to manually configure your ip settings(unusual but not unheard of) or your wireless adapter is not set to get settings from DHCP. Check to verify that your wireless adapter is set for DHCP and if this is correct then you'll need to contact the administrator for the wireless AP and haver them check their settings.

My laptop says it has an invalid ip address

If the laptop's own IP address is invalid, you need to figure out where the incorrect settings are. If you're running it with a wireless adapter and a router, make sure that the network connection is set to DHCP and not to static IP address.

Probably the best course of action, especially if you're not very experienced with networks or IP addresses, is to run the New Connection Wizard, which you can access like this:
1) click on Start
2) move the mouse pointer up to Settings
3) click on Control Panel
4) double click on Network Connections
5) click on File
6) click on New Connection
7) follow the instructions.

I hope that helps! Good luck.

Invalid ip address on lan when I try to connect

Check IP settings on computer. If you are using router with DHCP support, I would suggest using that and avoid using any static IP addressing. Remove any IP addresses that have been manually set up on your PC, and let the router provide an IP address. If this seems to go "over your head", then please provide more information as to your setup and equipment, and I can elaborate on how an effective fix can be applied.

I am trying to connect to the wireless in my new apartment. I have entered my network and password and that has worked fine. However, under Wireless Network Connection Status (i can get there by clicking...

On the Support tab - what does it say the "Address Type" ?
If its DHCP then check that on the TCP/IP properties;
If on "automatic IP address" then it wont take any entered IP address.

Do not put any IP address.

Check that "Obtain an IP address automatically" is checked and also "Obtain DNS server address automatically" is also checked. On wireless network tab check "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings".

On preferred network check that your wireless network is there, if not add it and move it up
