Does IBM x206m supports windows 7 and windows 8?

The original OS is Windows Server 2003. A real solid platform.

It all depends on the configurations and hardware. There is a real concerns on the array controller. I would not tempt fate. Instead look into Server 2008 or even 2012. MS has an evaluation of 2012.

If you really want to test without making any changes, download VMWare player and test away.

How big is your UPS backup. Small home / office only last a few hours before the battery drains. Their role is to allow time to save work and shut properly. Large enterprise UPS's last longer, but are dependent on battery bank size and configuration.

I am trying to install a pcie-x1 video card on a ibm eserver x206m i salvaged from work. I am running windows 7 64bit . I have tried to turn off on board graphics so that it takes the video card i just...

I know this is really old, but I had the same problem on my 206m 8584 with a pci-e x1 video card. I had to upgrade bios first, but nothing seemed to change, bios only showed onboard video as option and windows perfectly recognized the exta card. I went to windows video settings, it showed both video, onboard as main and active and extra as inactive, changed the second video to main and active and switched the plug to finally see my enhanced video. Only problem is that bios screen won't show up on pci-e card, so I start seeing something only after one minute :) Hopes this saves someone else some time.

Battery backup I have a server running 750watts powersupply, has intel xeon 1.6 (2 x quad core) 2 scsi drives, 4 SATA drives and 4gb ram. Will 1300 watts battery backup be enough?

I have a similar setup on my Small Business Server and an 1100 Watt backup. It will run my server for 30 to 45 minutes and sends the signal to shut the server down when power gets critical so my server will do a clean shutdown. I've replaced the battery once in 3 years so I would say the 1300 Watt UPS will be sufficient to operate your server for a short period of time before doing a clean shutdown. (You may get an hour or so out of it before it shuts your system down). Be sure it has either a serial or usb connection to keep your server apprised of its status.

Formatting and Freshly installing OS on IBM Server

First of all backup all of ur data include your database if its stored on server , any encrypted files be sure that you decrypt it first after backup , determine if the server hardware compatible with new OS , don't forget the raid configurations after all of that boot with your new system CD and let the system format the hard for you i don't prefer to use third party application if i use microsoft windows

Hard disk upgrade

I faced the same problem i asked to the ibm people they said that non ibm hdd's are not supporting x3400 servers and they are hanging when we work with non ibm hdds. when I use segate 1 TB sata hard disk the server working fine the only problem is little bit slow for booting and programme running, this not a broblem. so pls use 1 TB sata hdds with your x3400 servers.

DDS-5 not compatible with windows 2008

I am pretty sure that the driver should be compatible with win08.

If you are using backup exec then try switching to use symantec drivers for your tape drive (setting withing BUEX)

If it is just the tape that cant be read or identified and was backed up using windows backup then try restoring the backup on a 2003 server and then copying the data across the network.

I am unable to get IBM UlTrium TD4 SCSI device drivers for windows 2000 server

Hi,

if you "have not" using Backup Software (e.g. Symantec Backup Exec, CA), you can try this IBM LTO-4 driver for Win2K.
