Change the door opening from left to right. Can it be done?

My wife is in a wheel chair and I built her a sitdown kitchen. She needs the refrigerator door to open from the right side and this one opens from the left side. Can it be changed to open from the right side?

According to the owners manual for the HSB03, there are no instructions for reversing the door, therefore it is not reversible as by the companies instructions. I would not recommend reversing the door, even if it appears as though it could be done. There may be vital components within the unit that are not visible from the outside that could be damaged by the hinge screws in the wrong place.

On most refrigertators this is possable;take a look at the opposate side you should be able to see the holes already in place they might have little plastic covers in them remove and keep.if this is the case its not a big job compared to the kitchen job you done.simply remove the door and move the hinges to the oppisate side, the only thing that would consern me would be the handle position if there is one some doors open by pulling the door from the bottom if this is the case it might not be problem but check the hinges first if the opposite side has indeed holes in place i dont see a problem if you fitted a kitchen im sure a small matter of a handle will not stop you.hope this helps.adrian

Right door keeps popping open when you close left door

Look in the creases of the magnet seal on the door, there may be dirt built up, clean it with soapy water and sponge then try it. The refrigerator may also be unlevel causing the door to not seal properly.

How to I change handing of fisher & paykel 2 door fridge

Hello friend
Not your machine but this is how it is done for standard Fridges , They are all similar http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VEcPVbOjdUE

Extract From the fisher & paykel website user guide ....it seems to be all about the handles.

Door conversion
If you need to hinge your door on the opposite side we recommend that you call your local
Fisher & Paykel Authorised Repairer or Dealer to make this conversion.
ActiveSmart refrigerator models with silver handles need to be ordered at the point of purchase either with left or right opening doors and can not be interchanged.
All other models need to have an appropriate conversion kit for that model refrigerator.
The kit is available from your Fisher & Paykel Authorised Repairer or Dealer. Full instructions are
included in the conversion kit.
This does not apply to French door mode

Switching door sides

some model you can, some you can't....if there are pre drilled holes with plastic plugs on the opposite side you can....you will need to purchase hinges and maybe handles.

Features list reversible door swing. Can this be done on site or does it need to be done at the factory? We are being charged for a second delivery because the fridge came with the dorr swinging the wrong...

This should be able to be done on site. If you look at the top of the fridge, on the opposite corner from where your hinge is currently located, you should see some sort of plug(s) that covers the screw holes that are used for changing the hinge between left and right. The same thing on the bottom face of the fridge body. You will see the screw holes to change the bottom hinge side as well. The doors themselves should also have plugs that cover where they sit on the hinges when the door opening direction is changed. I've not done it with model of fridge before, but I have with many others (installed them for a living when I was younger) and it should be a very simple DIY job providing there aren't any water tubes for the ice maker going into the door. Even then, with a bit of patience you should be able to do it rather than be charged for such a simple thing.

Hope this helps!

Last night my wife left the freezer door open. When she came down this morning to the kitchen she noticed it and now the motor in the back is making a loud noise. Is it possible we have burned the motor,...

The fan motor is probably laden with frost and ice. If you can remove the food and then get a hair dryer you can warm up the area in the rear of the freezer. This should remove the ice and frost, let it rest for a whilke and then plug it back in.

Power and no lites in refrig/freezer; beeping

depending on age of unit, the problem may lie in the light bulb, well the door closing anyway, the newer unit s actuall will shut down all interior lights, in the evnet that teh door is left open for more then 2-3 min, so its possible that a light switch is not being activated so the uit thinks the door is open and has shut down the rest of lights, cooling however does continue normally.

Bottom drawer does not properly close

Okay, I fixed it for now. The design for this bottom freezer drawer is not good. What happened was most likely that my son slammed the door, and it bounced and was slightly open. Overnight, ice started to form all over the compartment, including inside the drawer guides. Some ice was probably obstructing the drawer glide from sliding shut.

What I did, not thinking this was the solution, was to prop chairs against the drawer to close it while I searched for answers on the Internet. In the meantime, some of this ice must have refrozen in the closed position (due to the weight of the chairs). When I went to check it later, I had a little trouble opening the drawer. I gave it a hard yank and some small frost flew off, as I opened the drawer.

It was not easy sliding it due to the frost. I then moved it out and in until it felt smooth, and finally closed the drawer and it stayed in the shut position.

Kids are instructed to close the drawer gently and visually check that it is sealed. There is also an air passage between the refrigerator unit and the freezer so that when you close the double french doors, some air pushed to the freezer section and momentarily pops the drawer open. You should make sure that the drawer closes before leaving the kitchen. If you are on vacation, prop chairs to make sure both the freezer drawer and the french doors stay closed. This is important if you're in an earthquake area as a small tremor could open the doors and you'll get a fire when the lights stay on and burn through the wiring (as others have noted).
