YOUTUBE.COM !!!! They have great videos, but Rio Grade has a great selection of jewelry making books. I bought one 20 years ago that I still use as a reference guide and loan out to people interested in the field. The book is "The complete metalsmith" by Tim McCreight. It touches on many different tasks ( building clasp, making chains, casting techniques , fabrication, textures, stone history, technical data on metals (specific gravity) building of machinery, I can go on & on. The kicker is I just looked it up and it is only about $20 bucks. Awesome book.

Wire jewelry
is a great way to get started if you want to create your own unique jewelry
designs. It's good because it doesn't require soldering or any other fancy
equipment, so the initial set up costs are reasonable.
You can look
online for tutorials etc and learn some really complex techniques that look
amazing.
No - you can't solder sterling silver with a soldering iron, you should use a gas torch, but these are not techniques that you should attempt without supervision.
