Dell dimension 4550... no display on screen after a restart, took video card out and put it back in, picture came back until the next restart, now once again no display... what do I do?

sounds like a video card or slot issue. try to turn off the computer, disconnect the power cord, then remove the video card. try to blow dust from the video card slot using compressed air or use a vaccum. after that, press the power button for about 10 seconds to discharge any power left on the system board. reconnect the video card, reconnect the power cord and test. if same issue, try resetting BIOS defaults, try to update the chipset and BIOS. If both fails, try testing the video card on another system. if it is a PCI type of card, try testing it on another PCI slot on your system if available. if the card has same issue on another system, time to get a new one or use the onboard video card temporarily. Also, observe if video only disappears when Windows is already trying to load. if that is the case, either a video driver reinstall or operating system reinstall may also be needed.

Dell 8400 No Boot, not even POST

It sounds like your bios were improperly flashed or went bad. The X300 SE message is your video card. So your video card works, the system mostly works, but the BIOS isn't starting up. You should contact Dell and tell them the situation.

How or where in the BIOS do I switch video source to PCI? Old Dell PowerEdge 600SC. Attempting to install new video board.

Most servers (including the 600SC) were not designed for use with add-in video cards, thus, there is no jumpers or BIOS setting to disable the onboard video.

Fried Video Card

if you "fried" the video card you wouldn't get anything on the screen. Most Likely the wrong driver got installed or you need to check video properties to set video screen size and drivers installed.
Happens when installing updated video drivers.
Note: MS Update has installed incorrect drivers because thay were "NEW" but were incompatible with the video card on my systems before. Had to unistall "NEW" and reinstall "OLD".

MY DELL DIMENSION E521 WONT BOOT WINDOWS AFTER STARTING UP, I WAS TOLD THAT THE VIDEO CARD COULD BE BAD, WHERE IS THIS LOCATED IN MY PC AND CAN i USE ANY VIDEO CARD TO RPLACE THIS?

Hello, if you were told by an expert tha you need a video card, here what you need:
1: You do not have a slot card type video card in your system( Dimension E521) your system has on board video, which you can not remove from the system but disable it.
2: Your system has PCIe x16 slot that can be used for new video card.
3: Link below will give you a list of PCIe x16 video cards, you can pick and choose according to your needs. Do you need DVI (digital connection, does your monitor has a white port in the back or just the blue one?), or regular VGA (blue port) is enough, do you need HDMI etc...
bottom line is any of those video card will work.

4: I am assuming you have never done this before so before you open up computer and start taking things apart go to the link below and download service manual for Dell Dimension E521 ( I selected the model for you so you don't have to look for it :-) )
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dime521/en/SM_EN/index.htm

5: In the service manual link there are several Sections like:
Before You Begin
About Your Computer
Technical Overview
Specifications
Advanced Troubleshooting
System Setup
Removing and Installing Parts click on each one and read about it first to familiarize your self with the system.

6: Once you feel confident enough remove the power cable from from computer.
-> open computer cover
-> follow instructions in service manual under
->Removing and Installing Parts
-> Cards
->PCI Express Cards
-> Installing PCI express card.
-> Close computer cover
-> plug monitor cable to new card
-> power on the computer
-> if Picture quality is bad that means card was not properly recoginzed, install drivers from the CD that came with the video card.

I hope this helps, if you get stuck at any step or not clear feel free to post back.

Kind Regards,
Amar Sondhi

No, you shouldn't need to install driver first. I checked the video card, and it should work fine with your system. You need to go into bios and change to vga mode or the other mode( I don't remember for agp)

Dell Dimension 5100 won't start with new FireMV 2400 PCI Express video card

Did you check to make sure the video card is installed in the right spot? Has the onboard video card been disabled in Windows - and when you say it will not boot, do you mean physically no POST. Do you get any error codes? If you can get into the CMOS (Bios) Setup screen - change the primary display adapter from the onboard to AGP, PCI, or PCI-E depending on which card that is. Use this information at your own risk - hope it helps.
