Software not running

Can't get cd to run at all (using windows vista basic), even after manully using run on the start menu

  • Anonymous May 11, 2010

    Hello 8wardadrian,

Could you please tell us if you are having this problem with just this one CD or with all CD's you try to run in this drive? If the problem is just with this CD, can you try running it on a different computer (at work, at a friend's house, etc.)? The more details you can include in the description of your problem, the easier it is for us to find a solution for you.

I am looking forward to your next post.
    Thank you.
    Belgian Alien.

I have acer 7520 and i don't see the dvd rom in windows explorer

Hi,

It happens when the Software that is not Windows Vista capable (such as printer software, CD burning software, and games) may have modified the registry to cause the optical drive to not function.

Please follow the steps below:

  1. From the Windows Vista default Start menu, point to All Programs, Accessories, and then click Run.
  2. In the Run dialog box, type: Regedit. Click OK.
  3. In the User Account Control dialog box, click Continue.
  4. In the Registry Editor window, locate and then click to select the following registry subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
  5. From the File menu, click Export.
  6. In the File name dialog box, type: Savedkey, and then click Save.
  7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters file, and then from the Edit menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  8. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters file, and then from the Edit menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
  9. In the Registry Editor window, from the File menu, click Exit.
  10. Shut down Windows® and restart the computer.
Thanks and regards,

My vista home basic get stuck when it open the user account,i cant open anything and also display a message that "activate the product key, please insert the installation software cd"

you should be able to run a repair if you have the disk. Or when you first turn on the computer, keep pressing the f8 key until the service menu appears and then click repair windows.

Hope this helps.

I need to reformat my NEC e3100 because im experiencing all kinds of internet issues and software issues where my computer doesnt even recognise any programs installed. how do i go about resetting it. i...

To reformat usually you either use a windows install disc and reinstall windows, or you use a boot disk and a format utility, depending on the windows version. There are also format discs such as UBD that also work. When you format your drive, you lose all the information on it. You also will need a windows disc and serial number to install after a format.

The easier way to get your computer working is to simply use your windows disc to re-install windows. Before doing that it is a good idea to run several different virus and spyware scanners as well as a registry cleaner. RegScrubXP is a good one to use. When windows is running, simply browse to your windows disc and run setup.exe, that will reinstall windows over top the copy you have and replace any damaged or missing files. Then reinstall all your programs and it should all work. Programs can be re-installed over top even if they already are installed, basically all that happens is the missing files are replaced. Re-installing does not give you two coies of the same program - it just makes the copy that is already there work again.
Windows 2000 and XP have a feature for repairing also, in the start/run menu, type sfc /scannow and put your windows CD in, it will then check all files and replace any damaged or missing ones.

Hi,
Both office 2003 and 2007 are compatible . It would be nice if you install office 2007 as it has loads of new features. Its even more convenient to work in.

Removing Screen Saver name from Screen saver list

Right click on the desktop, select properties on the menu, then the screensaver tab to view what options you have. Vista is a royal pain with regards to whether you are in the administrator mode. Right click on the task you wish to execute and select 'run as administrator' menu option.
