how would i no if it is broken? I tryed to start dryer with door open and it wont start.

I get the same exact problem in that I can be right there with the dryer door open and set time to the timer and the heating element goes on for about 10-15 secs and then off. And I think it cycle that way as long as there is time on the timer. Something I raed somewhere said that the element is not supposed to turn on if the blower/motor is not on. And I also saw a post similar but not exact to mine that said the timer plays a vital role in the element turning on. If I open the door and try to run, it wont, yet in that same state, the element will cycle (i.e. heat up, thermostat off, heat up, thermostat off, etc)

It wont start with door open unless the switch is fried to the contacts. With the door open use something to push the switch in while pushing start. If it starts your ok.Does the element turn off after the cycle? You need to be more specific,im assuming this is an electric dryer.

I'm inclined to think that the problem is in the electronics, in the circuit board, since it's acting so oddly. The timer dial shouldn't allow the heating element to energize when the door is open.

If the thermal fuse is blown, you should NOT get heat.

Sounds as if the motor centrifugal switch is stuck. Check to see if lint built up around switch or centrifugal mechanism on motor shaft. Rap switch with the handle of a screw driver hard but don't break it .

Need help! If there is time left on the timer and I open the dryer door, the dryer tumbler stops as it should. BUT, my dryer heating element stays on and never turns off unless I unplug the dryer or turn...

Either the centrifugal switch on the drive motor is stuck in the ON position or the heating element is broken and shorted out on the heater canister.
You did not post a model number.
Therefore I can not assist in accessing these parts.
All dryers are made differently.
Appliance model numbers are a must.
