Question about Video Game Consoles

3 Answers

I bought a Nintendo Wii console in Malaysia ( I live in Australia) which has an Asian Manual. I was told it would work in Australia..But... The list of Countries does not even list Australia It will not read discs from the Disc Channel and it tells me that the Mii Channel and Photo Channel"Cannot be used" However it does have a channel on the main menu named WiiGator - Gamma. where I can play discs. Why are the three channels not available to me? I would love to access these Cahnnels. Is there a way to do this.Do I need to unlock a Regional Lock? Thankyou Karen

Australia is PAL (Phase Alternating Line)
Malaysian is NTSC (National Television System Committee)
So two different systems.

The Wii uses regional-lockouts to prevent imported games from working - for example, Japanese games will not be recognized by an American Wii. Without using a mod-chip, they will likely be locked out of games from the own region if they're using a Wii from another region (although using a mod-chip could brick their Wii if they download a system update that intentionally bricks modified Wiis - yes, Nintendo has the power to do this.
Any new games will have to be from the Australian region, so they'll have to pay for shipping and other fees related to importing... not to mention that many games have staggered releases world-wide. Many games aren't released in Australia until many months have passed after being released in the US.

Hi

the wii is region locked to the asian region you purchased it from, this is a problem.. This might be solvable by updating the wii with a software that is for australia but that might not solve the issue as the drive itself is most likely programmed to be used only at one region.

Can you tell me more about the channels? are they related to a game or?

There is unfortunately no legal way around this, though if you explain the issue to the vendor you may be able to get a refund.

Hi. Unfortunately I think the fuse got burned, take it to a service center in your country, you can't plug devices that way. You can buy an adapter to regulate the voltage. I hope just the wii fuse got burned.
Good luck.

Got my wii for christmas, just opened it up yesterday 12-26 and it will not read the disc. message come up error has occured eject and unplug. this is very upsetting. please help

Hi,

Your problem could be that the disks you are running may be unknown or fake or maybe it's because your wii's regional code is different from the games regional code i.e. Your wii is from Australia and your games are from America. So if you got your wii from your current country that you live in and say you had some friends in another country who bought these games for you then they will not work on your wii. It is rather upsetting I do agree. I hope this works and you feel better.

Nintendo Wii

Google "Wii Homebrew" and read up on this amazing work people have put so much time and effort on to make it possible to make your Wii region-free and play software Nintendo didnt design. You will have to check what version of firmware the Wii has installed. This is easy though as all you do is open up the menu and look in the upper right hand corner. It should say 3.2E for a PAL [European Wii], 3.2U for NTSC [USA, Canada, and Mexico], 3.2 J for NTSC [Japan]. If it says 4.0 then you will have to wait for someone to find an exploit because Nintnendo has fixed the access point [the way you can install homebrew and start it] in this version of firmware. Just google it and read up on it. Best of luck and hope you dont have 4.0.

Wii problem

I had the same problem the dat I bought mine. I had to send it back to Nintendo. They told me this is a common problem, but were quick to send me a shipping label, and told me I should have it back within 15 days.

Good luck!
