Dryer belt broke on my kenmore series 80

I have seen the directions for taking the dyer apart to get to the belt. My problem is in replacing the belt on the motor and pulley. I don't understand how to do this without the drum falling off the back when I remove the front panel from the sides. There is no access panel on the bottem front of the dryer so I can get to the motor/pulley mechanism. What am I missing

With the front cabinet panel off, place the drum against the back and on the rear rollers. The roller on the right will sometimes move toward the rear so reach from underneath and pull it forward. The rollers should sit in the groove. The drum will tilt forward but shouldn't fall off. Route the belt around drum, pulley and motor. Tilt the drum back and support it while placing the front panel back onto it's hooks. With the front panel on (don't screw it on yet), rotate the drum by hand to make sure the seal is not kinked and the belt won't slide off the pulley or motor. If all is well screw in the front panel and re-assemble the rest.

I have the Kenmore series 80 Dryer and Ihave taken the face off and removed the Drum. I wanted to clean everything while relacing the belt. However I have stumbled....there is what appears to be a tensioner laying in the bottom of the casing. When I get the new belt is this tensioner to be used? I don't see how the belt fits through this, since its a sealed tensioner. I can fit it over the drum and the motor pulley only! Please advise and thank you.

I saw your comment on a FixYa post about your series 80 dryer a few years ago. I'm having the same problem trying to fix my sisters dryer. I took the drum off and I also saw a tensioner just lying in the bottom. I think I figured out where it goes but there's no place to hard mount it to the bottom. Does this part just sit "loosely" in the bottom? Seems kind of weird and I was hoping you had better luck a few years ago with yours. Any help in this matter would help a lot. Thanks in advance.

Kenmore Series 80

You can find an exploded view at Sears Parts Direct, as well as get P/N's for the parts needed. I suspect the roller assembly came apart which caused the belt to fail.

You will need your Model number to locate the exploded view. If you can not figure out the routing from that, then order the service manual from Sears. It will show the routing and describe how to assemble and test most all aspects of the appliance.

Kenmore Series 80 Dryer. Heats doesn't spin clothing. Imagine its a belt or spin motor. Need a schematic

No need for a schematic, there are two kenmore dryer belts, 'full size' or 'apartment size', if it is a belt you will be able to here the motor racing unloaded, turn heat to cold before testing, dont want to blow a thermal fuse.

Kenmore dryer comes apart from the front,
  • UNPLUG dryer 220V is not fun
  • remove the lint screen
  • remove the screws under the lint screen holding the case top to the screen holder
  • with a putty knife or other blunt blade release the catches at the front corners of the top and raise top
  • remove screws holding front of case on, from inside the dryer
  • remove door switch cables
  • lift front of case off and set aside,
  • can reach motor, belt, felts and rollers.
  • broken belt will be obvious, lying on the floor
If belt is broken, examine rollers and felt bearings for wear, stuck rollers or no felt left, is the most common cause of belts breaking, extra tension is required to spin the drum, If damaged replace them, they are cheap and easy to do, and it woud be no fun if another belt broke quickly

reasemble after repair in reverse order.
