If you have a root Virus, you either have to find a program to remove it or reformat the hard driver and reinstall everything.

Microsoft says "the error code 0x80070005 you received is described as ACCESS DENIED (you do not have permission to install updates)"
Please check for viruses and malware first by installing appropriate software.

Nothing is on the desktop but the firefox process is in the background. you can navigate to the process manager program or do the following:

-hold alt+ctrl and press F1
(this will take you to a terminal)

-log in with your user name and password (root user is better but I will use a root command in a moment just in case)

-once logged in type what is in these prackets {sudo ps -A} (this will prompt you for the root password if you are not root yet)

-The command "ps" shows all running programs. You will see a list with a PID and a program name.
-type the command in these brackets {kill [PID]} but fill in my PID with your firefox PID

You may have a few running that you have to kill but once you are done -hold alt+ctrl and press F7 and you will go back to graphical mode and Firefox will work.

Have fun

On certain websites I keep getting error118

eRROR 118 only means that the Website you are trying to Access is Down possibily the Server just Rebooting or they could be Altering the Page that you are Trying to Access another possibility is that the website is blocked by a firewall configuration or the administrator of the network

Aspire One PC Notebook: i cant not open certain program, it says error , o...

You probably have a virus so everytime you double click even on Local Disk C:\ it will ask you to choose a program.
Download something called mata_virus it's a very nice script to kill the amvo virus and its variants.
Run it and after it's done it will show you the hidden files and folders. Then go to My computer and right -click on C:\ and then click explore.. then look for a file called autorun.inf. Right click and click on properties. Uncheck the "Read only" attribute. and then open it. and you will find the virus name and location. Write it down. Restart the pc safe mode and see if use the search (start - search) and look for that file. Delete it. Then restart normal mode and download an AV, I really like Avira Antivirus - (http://www.free-av.com) and yes it's free - you can see its reviews on cnet.com. Install - update the virus definitions and run a complete scan. I hope this helps. If not, you will need to connect an external CD rom and use something like ERD Commander to restore Windows system Files and use the registry to remove any trace of the virus, but that's is not easy for the regular user, you really have to know what you are doing because If you delete the wrong file, you will damage the Windows installation completely.
Have a good day.

My cd drive wont read disks, but it will allow me to open it but only once... and now my internet stopped working and i cant use my recovery disk cuz the drive isnt working.. what do I do...

There could be several causes, but because you mentioned your internet as a second symptom, it leads me to believe you may have a virus.

What exactly occurs when you try to read a disk for the second time? Do you get an error? Does the drive letter disappear?

I suggest you obtain a decent anti-virus, put it on a USB stick, and install it on your laptop from there. Avast! is free, as is AVG anti-virus. I recommend you get a free trial of a paid copy, however, so that you can do a full scan for root-kits, MBR, etc. Avast! Internet Security is good, as is Trend Micro and/or Norton.

Hello and Welcome to Fixya
It seems that the drivers of your machine are mal-functioning. Please do make sure that your operating system is virus & bugs free. If not then do install some good anti-virus with updated virus definitions...
If still problem persists, I would recommend you to back up all data from the root drive and use the "Access IBM" utility for the restoration of windows to its factory settings.

Best of Luck

Do rate my solution, If FOUND Helpful....

Sounds like your PC is infected with some spyware or viruses. Download and install the following and be sure to update it first. After you update the software, perform a full scan. This should take care of anything infectious. By the way, are you running any antivirus software?

Can't run internet searches, probably due to a virus issue...

Hello,

You seem to have a nasty little virus at hand. Since you are running XP and you don't want to spend any more $$, I would suggest going to Microsoft's support and security page, there you can run a free scan of your system and it will identify and remove any virus, adware, malware, and any other ..ware on your system. My other recommendation is Norton's 360 Internet Security. (not the antivirus alone.) Once it's installed, I would run a complete system scan.

Then one at Microsoft is really good. I would use it first and see how you like it. Good Luck

Internet sites not working

After running your antivirus, clear the virus vault, the reboot, and start the process over again, twice should do it. Also, go to filehip[po.com and download CCleaner and run it. It will help clean out excess build up of unnecessary **** (for lack of space to list all the items included) making your machine run faster and more efficiently. If you continue to have problems, the virus may have damaged the operating system, a system restore or reload will correct this. (Only after removing the virus) If you can't remove the virus, then it has damaged your antivirus software, many of the newer viruses go directly for the antivirus first, then the system. If this is the case the only way to be certain is to completely wipe the hard drive and reload the operating system.
