Question about HP Officejet 6310 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Phone line reversed

I used a phone line tester and it determined that the phone line was reversed.What does this mean and is it a problem because my telephones and computers all work fine.Thank you I also tested my phone line with the Sperry tester and it said that my line is reversed. I tried all other lines in the house and they were fine but the one I need to use says reversed. The kicker is I've tried plugging in my fax machine to all of the phone jacks and it wil not work throughout the house. I have tried the fax machine at another location it it worked fine.

Phones only use two wires Just reverse the two wires on that jack.

My Lexmark 7675 says phone i use but there is no phone in use on the line. I unplugged the phone cord and it said still phone line in use

This message appears when the printer is in the process of sending a fax - it has nothing to do with an actual phone being used - it can function when a phone is atached on the same line and is used (that is called On Hook Dialling). Normally it should detect that the line was disconnected so the sending should stop and a line error should be displayed. Since that doesn't happens it means that the unit is frozen.
The first thing is to try a simple power off/on : the printer should abandon the sending when powered off and resume normal function when on. If that fails it means that a fax got stuck and the next step is to empty the memory by reseting the printer to the factory defaults: turn off the printer (hold the power button pressed for 3 seconds); press and hold the green circle and the red x buttons then press the power button - keep them all pressed until the printer is fully on; release all the buttons and wait 15 seconds for the rest process to finish.
If you get the error even after that then either the firmware or the processor have been damaged. If it's the firmware the printer can be repaired simply by loading a new firmware - a complicated procedure that only a dealer can do. If it's the processor the entire motherboard would have to be replaced. That means the printer is dead, since it will be cheaper to just buy a new one. A visit to the repair shop of a dealer is mandatory, several tests will have to be done to determine which - it will be relatively expensive.

I'm trying to send a fax and it says phone not connected. It appears connected, says there is a modem. What am I doing wrong? How can I fix this problem to send a fax?

Make sure the fax line coming out from the phone jack in the wall is plugged into the Line port on the back of the printer and not in the Phone port.
Try to use a different telephone cable to determine it's not a faulty cable issue.
You may also contact your phone company to verify if fax line is working.

Comm error 345 ? What does it mean?

Check phone line. use a normal phone and plug into the same phone wall socket that the MFP is using, do we have a dial tone? Do we have a noisy line, any buzz or crackel will cause issues if there is no dial tone ring line supplier, If it is noisy line do the same

Also check phone line is plug into "line" socket in the back of machine not "ext'

Also check no prefix is required to dial out, unit needs its own phone line..

Also try using resolution of fax as standard not fine, this requires less info to go threw the line

Have your phone company run a test on the line. This is usually the problem. If they determine that your line is good, then check the phone cord. It could be bad or even plugged into the wrong port.

Cannot receive faxes

Faxes cannot be received but they can be sent Review the following information to determine why faxes are not being received.
  • Phone company services: Do you have any of the following telephone line services from your telephone company: Voice Mail, Privacy Block, Security Screen, Anonymous Call Rejection, or Privacy Manager? These phone services are meant to prevent unwanted calls, but they will aslo stop faxes. Contact your telephone company for their recommended solution for receiving faxes on the same line with these services.
  • If you wish to receive faxes automatically, verify that automatic answering is enabled on models that have an Auto Answer button, or that the Rings to Answer setting is set to a number equal to or larger than one for models that do not have an Auto Answer button. On models with an Answer Mode setting, it should be set to Fax, FaxTel, or AnswerMachine depending on your setup.
  • If you have a HP PSC 2200 or an Officejet 6100 that interrupts calls or will not receive faxes, download and install the HP Firmware update for these products.
    1. Click here to go to the Drivers and Support page .
    2. Type in your model number (HP PSC 2210xi for example).
    3. Click the search arrow to the right of the text entry box. You may be asked to select your product from a list of models.
    4. On the software download page, select your operating system version.
    5. Locate and select the firmware update.

Our HP Officejet 5600 won't receive faxes.

Here is the answer to your question.

Error code 244 can mean any of the following things: :

1. You or the person sending the fax pressed the STOP key , causing the session to stop before completion.

2. The fax machine on the other end determined that there is an incompatibility with your machine and the one you are sending to and stopped the fax session.

To fix this you can try the following things. Try them one at a time, and if they don't work, place them back the way they where before you changed it.
  • Make sure the fax machine you are sending to can accept and use polling.
  • Select a slower "receive" speed.
  • Enable or disable the ECM setting.
Error Code: 232

1. Can mean that a communication failure has happened between the two machines.

2. It may also mean that the user of the FAX machine you are sending to has pressed the STOP key

3. If call waiting is enabled, it may cause this error. Disable call waiting on your phone line, if you have a fax machine connected to it. The click or beep on the line that indicates you have a incoming call, can STOP a fax session.

4. Another cause of this error code is that the power was interrupted to the machine you are attempting to send a fax to.

Things you can do to solve this problem: Try them one at a time, and if they don't work, place them back the way they where before you changed it.

  • Try disableing ECM. However, this may reduce the quality of your faxes.
  • Ask the person you are sending the fax to to set the machine to receive at a slower speed.
  • Try the fax again at a different time, incase it is a problem with the phone line.
  • If you phone lines are old, or there is static on the line it may cause trouble sending a fax.If this is the case you will need to contact your local phone company or whoever is responsible for servicing your phone lines.

Intermitent Ticking

I determined that there was an incorrect connection from the printer to the main phone line jack. The DSL connection and the printer were reversed.

Canon PIXMA MP780 creates an "off-hook" condition for phone line 2


Does your Pixma multifunction printer have two lines in? for line 1 and line 2? Your active line should be in line 1 of course.

However, I do not think your printer is the source of the problem.

When the phone company turns off line 2 they can do it one of three ways depending on the generation of your local telephone system.

At the back of your home or in the office building there should be a telephone network interface box. Once section if open to the customer to do basic tests, the other is reserved an uses a security screw head to keep you out. You have either red/green and yellow/black or blue/blue-white and orange orange-white wires. Each color refers to tip and ring in telephone polarity. If these are reversed your phone will work but not well.

For your smart phone with two lines in, I'd check out at the box and switch the wires for black/yellow or orange orange-white. When these are reversed the 'polarity' is off but voltage would still be present. In your case, the smart phone MAY be reading the crossed wires and giving you a line open vs. a line empty/disconnected which is nearly the same thing.

If you still have the second set of lines connected to your phone disconnect them from the phone and then underneath the phone you MAY find a switch to hard set your phone for single line or double line.

6210 all in one printer

Phone off hook means to say that the printer is connected to a fax line and the fax line is in use. That message won't disappear until you disconnect the phone cable on the printer or no one is using the line for fax.

Fax Line Jamming - Cannot even use household phones

A power surge has come through the phone line, fusing the tiny relay in the modem/fax part of the printer. this is very common. I have also seen where you need to use the HP provided filter/splitter on the phone line to have the fax work correctly.
