Many games load data on to the hdd to keep load time down. If your hard drive is full you can upgrade to a lager unit or erase the data you no longer need. btw all ps3 use a 2.5" sata hd with a 5400rpm speed. You can put in a 500gb if you wanted. You would need to back up all your data first. you can also setup the ps3 to use a external hard drive for storage.

I just tried to update my ps2 with the new updates for FFXI. I get an error code that reads insufficient HD D space & requires 1010 MB of free space to update. After reviewing the capacity which is...

This isn;t a H.D.D. problem. Something is wrong with the FFXI version update for PS2. I have the same issue too and my H.D.D. space is practically the same. I don't even use my H.D.D. for anything except FFXI. The only solution I can think of is to contact Square-Enix/Playonline to inform them so that they are aware of the problem. But do not do anything to your H.D.D. and/or do not format it until Square-Enix makes a statement.

Need 419 mb space wen i brought console new

Maybe it wasn't brand new after all.

You can clear up the old user data by deleting it from the GAME menu. Check Game Data Folder.

If there are games that you've never played before or games that you aren't going to play anymore go ahead and delete the files.

Best of luck!

Insufficient HDD space to play a game on a brand new ps3

This is a common problem (bug) with this game. Basically you have to delete something, anything, off your harddrive. If you have nothing on then download a demo or something then delete it. This should fool yr ps3 into releasing the space you need to play r&c.

PS3, Ratchet & Clank, HDD Full, need 419 MB Free Space...

For some reason this software has a glitch that won't allow it to load unless you delete one of your profiles from any game. I deleted/transfered to stick a 132 MB profile from Saints row II and it loaded. I didn't need to delete 419 MB as it stated. The game loaded and plays perfectly now. I see that even a new virgin system with zero profiles does the same thing. I guess you need to download any profile of any size and delete it before you can load this one. It should have been worked out before the game was released. I am sure that there were more than a few unhappy kids Christmas morning due to this. Thank you anyway.

Ratchet and clank will not play on my ps3

Get a music CD and put it in the machine, then press the triangle and select import. You may have to use more than one CD to get it to work. There are some files missing that are needed for Ratchet & Clank which are on music CD's.

It worked for me.

Brand new PS3 80GB - says I don't have enough HDD space!!!

this is a known big in the game , i listed the report below

We have identified a data loading issue with PS3 and Ratchet & Clank Tools of Destruction, which may affect users who boot the game up for the first time.

During the pre-game set-up procedure, game data is automatically saved to the PS3 HDD. It has been found that, on occasion, this data fails to copy to the HDD, with an on-scree message claiming that there is insufficient space to do so - despite the fact that there is in fact enough free space on the drive.

ACTION: For every 4GB of HDD space, there is a 540MB range that will cause the game to display a message indicating that there is insufficient space to create game data. This message will therefore occur when the following amount of free space is on the HDD:

- 4010-4550MB;
- 8010-8550MB;
- 12010-12550MB;
- at every subsequent 4GB interval (i.e 16010-16550MB, etc)

If the PS3 HDD is within any of these ranges when booting without game data created, this message will appear. After game data is created, this will never appear, so if a user doesnt encounter it at first, they never will. Any users who do receive this message will need to either delete data from or save data to the HDD, so that the amount of free space no longer lies within the range detailed above

Ratchet and clank future: tools of destruction game doesnt play

I have read through some forums for you, and it appears that there is a bug that reads your disk as full even if it is not. The fix is to add at least 500MB of game data to your harddrive, then it will work. I think the bug was on the american version of the game. It read an almost empty harddrive as full.

I hope this helps

Ps3

most likely your hard drive is full.
Go to Settings-System settings-System information. it should tell you free space on your hard drive from your total available space.
Your drive is probably filled with demos and saved data from previous games, maybe music or even dowloaded movies.
If still had the same issue after the restore there is a chance that your hard drive was swapped for a very small one. ckeck the system info first:

Free space : 12 GB/37 GB this is for a 40 gb

If that is the problem you need a different hard drive (SERIAL ata 5400 rpm ).. upgrading the hard is easy.. or even go with an external drive.

Ratchet and clank ps3

I finally bought my router from amazon ($45) which enabled me to sign up for playstation network. From there I downloaded a free trial game and deleted it which allows you to play ratchet and clank. I am not very computer savy so it took me a bit to get the playstation online via the router. After playing the game for a week I can honestly say that it was worth all the trouble. One of the all time great games especially if you have kids. Using a wireless router seems to be the only way to overcome your situation. I wasn't thrilled about having to buy it after the money I spent on the PS3 but at least I am now connected to the Playstation network and can download Ratchett and Clank part II (can't remember title).
