Question about Dell Inspiron 1000 Notebook

1 Answer

Laptop will not boot up on its own power.

Hello - I have a Dell Inspiron 1000 which rarely has been used. If I run the laptop using the apower adapter it runs like a champ. No Issues, at all. However if I unplug the power adapter and move the laptop to any other location, it will not boot up al all. Its like all the charging had no effect on the battery - No power whatso ever. If it runs on the power adapter, I dont believe that the motherboard is the issue. Is this a typical battery issue question ?

Thanks, Sal

Hi - When looking at my options, the battery has a red 'X" running thru it. It appears that the charging has not worked. Is it possible the charger is bad ?

Check in your power options make sure settings are correct for shutdown and stanby ETC
see if battery is showing fully charged or not in your power options

If everything is okay for power options then you need a new battery
please let me know and don't forget to rate

Dell inspiron 9400 not booting up. no light in display. num keys and caps locks flashing

Hello.

The most common reasons are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

My dell Inspiron 1000 model pp08s when pluged in the computer wont turn on and the green light on the adapter flashes on and off

1. Take the battery out of the laptop & try to turn on the laptop using power adapter only. If the computer turns on, then the battery is defective & needs to be replaced.
2. Make sure the power adapter is not defective. Test the output voltage of the power adapter using a voltmeter. Compare the voltmeter reading to the nominal value written on the adapter or the laptop.
3. If you have another processor which is compatible with your laptop's model, try swapping processors & test to see if the laptop will work.
4. The power button could be bad
.
5. The motherboard could be defective & needs to be replaced.

My dell vostro 1000 won't turn on the green light

Try to do this: (Draining flea power)
1. Unplug the ac adapter (if connected)
2. Remove the battery
3. Press and hold the power button for at least 10sec.
4. Put back the battery and ac adapter
5. Turn it on

- check if you can now boot to windows, if not there could be a hardware problem and next step would be running some diagnostic test on the computer for hardware problem.

On the long term, a power adapter with a bigger amperage can damage battery and battery charger.

Better to get an adapter with same specs as the 65/70W one , or an original replacemant:

Connecting using wifi

If you go into the device manager and click on Network adapters, is there a wireless adapter listed there? Are there any items that have an exclamation mark next to them? If you answered no to both of the above questions, then there is no wireless adapter installed. You can purchase a PCMCIA wireless adapter rather inexpensively online. ($25) It will just pop right into the PC slot on the side of the laptop.

Ac adaptor use drains batteries

Hi,
As a system gets a little age on it, the battery naturally decays. Also, each time you plug the ac adapter into the laptop, the adapter connection on the motherboard becomes a bit looser on the solder points, all of which contributes to the symptoms you describe.
You could try a fresh battery.
The standard rule is a battery is wireds to last between 500-600 cycles, then it's dead. They claim it's a safety feature.
Good luck, hope that helps.
Thanks

DELL INSPIRON 1000

Try the following:

1. Try to boot the notebook with both battery and adaptor attached.

2. Try to boot with ONLY the battery.

3. Try to boot with ONLY the adapter.

If you can't boot with only the adapter, the adapter has died. If you can't boot with only the battery, the battery is dead.

But as stated above, make sure your battery is sufficiently charged.

In case of a dead battery or adapter, check whether the device is still under warranty. Contact HP if so.

Let me know what you found out.

Greetings,

DarkNeogen
