Garmin Edge 305 HRM problem

My husband and I both have a Garmin Edge 305 for cycling. We both wear the heart rate monitor. Mine has worked perfectly for a year but recently it has been sporadic and today I did not wear the chest strap but my Garmin was picking up his heart rate when we rode side by side. After the ride, I took mine far away from his and tried to "sensor pair" again so that my unit would pick up my heart rate. Now I can't get anything but his heart rate on my unit. Is there any way to cure this?

additional info...I have replaced the battery on my unit, gotten far away from his unit and "paired" again, all to no avail. I know my Garmin unit is working for heart rate as it picks up his heartrate. There has to be a pairing problem between my strap and my unit as I know my unit works! Very frustrating. I have also tried turning off the accessories in the unit, powering down, then turning the unit back on, pairing again, and no luck. Help, please!!!

How do i change a battery in a garmin 305

Hi David!

From your Owners Manual (Page 54)
http://www8.garmin.com/manuals/984_OwnersManual.pdf

REPLACE THE HEART RATE MONITOR BATTERY

"The heart rate monitor contains a user replaceable CR 2032 battery...
Locate the circular battery cover on the back of the heart rate monitor. Use a coin to twist the cover counter-clockwise until it is loose enough to remove. Remove the cover and replace the battery. Be careful not to lose or damage the o-ring gasket on the cover. Then use a coin to twist the cover back into place."

Hope this helps.

I haven't used my Garmin Forerunner 305 for over a year - but have just started using it again. It wasn't picking up my heart rate from the HRM, so I changed the battery in the HRM but it is still not...

I found this on the internet......

In the battery compartment there’s a gold contact that touches the top of the battery (+ve) which was in a position that would never make contact with the battery. I bent it out slightly, made sure the battery was seated correctly (i.e. flat) and as if by magic my heart rate appeared on the large Garmin display!

Also found this..........

I Have had the same problem couple of times (and forgotten each time how I solved it). I figured it out just now and this is what I did.

1) turn on unit and put on heart monitor (make sure battery is good and wet heart strap)
2) using the mode button navigate the menus to: Settings: General: Accessories: Heart Rate Monitor
3) Once in the Heart Rate Monitor option make sure "Yes" is selected and then use the arrow buttons to highlight "Restart Scan" . Press the enter button to rescan for your heart monitor. (I had to rescan twice)
Go back to the main monitor screen to see if you are recieving heart rate signals.

I am not sure why a manual rescan needs to be done every time but it would be nice if Garmin fixed this issues in a unit software update (my unit has software version 2.80

Hope this helps......

My garmin forerunner 305 HRM suddenly stopped working. I thought it was a bad battery so replaced that, and still nothing. Any other suggestions?

Garmin 305 Edge and GSC 10 not receiving one another

Solution copied from Garmin

Pairing the Edge 305 and sensors
Once you have installed the Garmin Edge 305 and the cadence sensor they need to be paired. As they communicate wirelessly with each other the Edge needs to connect to each sensor before it can receive input from it.

The initial pairing needs to be done away from other wireless systems this allows the Edge to pick up the sensors it is supposed to be monitoring. This is a little like black magic, but it seems to work quite easily.

The cadence sensor has a small press contact which puts the sensor into pairing mode. The HRM just seemed to connect by itself.

Subsequent pairing is much faster as the Edge 305 seems to remember which sensors it is paired with. If you have problems or need to change one of the sensors then you can use a setup feature to either turn the sensor off or to re-pair it.
